I was most definitely a ROCKER. Greasy hair, leather coat & trousers, motor bike (650 Bonneville) and used to hang out at Alex's off Smallbrook ringway. There was a posh hotel opposite the name of which I can't remember (and I should because I later spent my wedding night there .......another unmemorable occasion) anyway, they used to keep complaining about the noise of the bikes going in and out of Alex's so the constabulary used to give us a hard time. The 'Mods' on their silly scooters with dozens of mirrors, and useless spotlights, and decapitated animal tails stuck all over them used to hang out at the Town Hall. They used to throw stones at us if we rode past, which I thought was a bit unfair since we only used to throw cups of coffee at them!! Not ME of coarse, but some of the other rough boys.

I WUZ A ROCKER

I was a rocker with my Ariel Arrow, yes I know it's not a bonnie, but I had to pass my test on something. The Hotel was the Allbany.

Mods & Rockers

I was a normals.
I collected all records which I liked thats about it also I had the Army to deal with for 2 years couldn't have a DA on parade. Couldn't have anything if the Barber was in a bad mood. :steaming:

I was neither a mod or a rocker. S'pose I was somewhere in between the two - a mocker! (apologies to John Lennon).

I was somewhere in between to Paul, but opposite to you I was and still am a ROD

ACCIDENT

One of my best mates died on his bike in Garretts Green Lane in 1966.
I had worked with him side by side for a year before.

I finished biking for a while when I was 18, but went back to it with a CX500 when I was 29. I found it harder to go long bike rides and my back ached more than when I was young.

Mod outside but Rocker inside...

:D I had to dress like a ‘Mod Girl’, Mom would have killed me if I'd dressed like a Rocker. I cheated once though and bought a dress that had a leather look with a small gold chain that went across the front from one hip pocket to the other.
Loved Leather Jackets and clothes (still do!), I would wear my brothers leather jacket while he was at work.
As I said once before on another topic, like Dave’s friend my friend’s boyfriend was killed on his bike (It was because of that topic I found out that Alberta was my friend’s sister in law),
I loved riding pillion on the back of my brother in laws bike and any others that offered. I Got loads of rides, as most of the girls by us hated going fast and it was the ride I was after not the boy (At that time the boys were too in love with their bikes to be bothered about ‘silly girls’) and that suited us all.

Bikes

I had lots of bikes, I started on a BSA 150 Bantam that I bought for 10/- and rebuilt when I was 15. When I was 16 I got my L's but one day I parked my bike in Newtown Row, it fell over and a 33 bus went over it. My brother was about to upgrade so I bought his 250 AJS. I passed my test on that and moved up to a 350 Royal Enfield 'Bullet', then a 500 Ariel 'Red Hunter', then my first Triumph '650 Tiger 110' and finally ny beloved 'Bonnie'. Every one of them got smashed up (usually with me on it) and my Mom was really giving me a hard time. I said "If anyone ever gets hurt besides me, I'll pack it in". Well one day I was giving my mate a lift and we got cleaned up by a car on the High St island. Thankfully the 'Bonnie' didn't suffer any serious damage but my mate split his head open and my Mom held me to my word. I then moved down to a Reliant 3 wheeler and that's why I'm probably still alive today. For the last 8 years I have been driving my Pontiac Fiero sports car (red) and have the personalised number plate X10SHUN..........go figure!

James Captain

Had a James Captain bike for a month in 1959 fell of it once on the bridge by Fishers Castle Bromwich on my way home from Birmingham City Transport works Tyburn Road, never rode it again.

CRASH-BANG-WALLOP

I was always falling of my bike, and running people over [see previous posts, guest] One thing I could not get the hang of was front brake slightly before back. When something happened I just used to whack the foot pedal and that was it, I was on the floor.

Albany

Thanks Dave for jogging my memory about the Albany Hotel. Ive been trying to remember the name for yonks. I spent my wedding night in The Albany and now I LIVE in Albany (West Australia) scarey eh.......ghost music plays in the background and mist swirling everywhere

LOVE SUITE

Ispent my wedding night at the Norfolk Hotel on Hagley Road and now I live in Nor[folk] Devon. Well I tried did'nt I.

My first bike was an AJS 250 but the oil just run out of it and the clutch went after a fortnight so I took it back to Grays motorbike shop on Wellington Road and told them to stick it. After we had all calmed down the bloke said I could chose another one so I had the Arrow. I did'nt know anything about bikes at that time I just liked the look of the twin exhaust.
