Yew Tree - Witton Closed

Here you are folks, just to settle any misunderstandings.
It was originally a painting of the man signwriting the firms name, then when they upgraded their sign, they changed it so it looked like the man was fixing a neon sign.
Trust me I'm a signwriter.
Regards John.

Hi John Knight,

as I am the bloke wot first brought up the subject of the man-on-the-ladder at The Yew Tree, many thanks for confirming that I wasn't dreaming it. That's exactly as I remember it, and I think it was painted some time prior to the War.

Big Gee

hi big gee...as suggested before there must have been two guys up ladders... ive just shown this to someone and this is definately the one thats at the cross keys pub...this replaced the orginal one of a guy with all the signwriting equipement in his hands..ie paint..and brushes etc...

I think there were two,one we all know is on the wall next to The Cross Keys. The other was very near The Yew Tree,i remember seeing this each week from the No5 bus going from Summer Lane to Witton Lodge Rd in the mid 50s.
Moss.

Cashmores was a building firm and they had a yard and offices opposite the Cross Keys in Erdington - I went to their offices about Seven years ago for an estimate - I don't know if they are still there. George

Thank you George & Mossy:)

What was the factory next to the Yew Tree as I worked there for two weeks in the 1950s
