My father-in-law was a driver with the Seaforth Highlanders out of Vancouver, a unit formed here in a very old battalion, to fight in WW2. They were shipped out in 1939. He was stationed at Pirbright and went to Anzio and other places in Europe with his unit. Being a driver he was allowed to have more rations of carrots in order to keep his eyesight clear. No one really knows if that works even now. Great posters again Cromwell. I love the expressions on the characters faces.

That one about CARROTS  reminded me of a tale my Mom & Aunt Hilda used to tell about the black out.
WALKING HOME FROM THE CHIPPY IN THE TOTAL BLACKOUT MY AUNT WENT TO STEP UP THE CURB BY LOVERS LANE & ELECTRIC AVE,NOT KNOWING IT WAS A DOUBLE CURB STONE HIGH,TRIPPING MY AUNT FELL HEADLONG, A GENT PASSING HEAR ED HER CRY'S AND RUSHED TO HELP, ONLY TO HEAR MY AUNTS CRYING GET LOUDER AND MORE UPSETTING, WHEN ASK "HAVE YOU HURT YOURSELF & WHAT PART OF HER SHE HAD HURT, MY AUNT REPLIED "MY HAND" "WHAT CAN I DO" THE MAN ASKED, "YOU CAN GET YOUR FOOT OF IT PLEASE" REPLIED MY AUNT. :-[
That tale has given a number of generations a laugh over the years.

Another strange poster, I don't suppose you could buy much in the way of clothing as it was all make do and mend, old jumpers (Pullover) became balaclavas old socks became ya mittens (gloves) when ya got a hole in your shoe it had a piece of cardboard in it with ya old clothes they became rugs for the floor or bed as blankets, so I don't know what this poster is talking about unless it meant don't dress up like a Japanese sniper, or Carmen Miranda. But you had to if you lost all your clothes in the blitz think of all the women that made dresses out of tablecloths and underwear out of parachutes (silk)not to mention the liquid stockings.

Cromwell, I remember my Mom painting her stocking on by using red sand mixed with water,She spent a long time trying not to get it streaky LOL ;D

Hi Graham,
once again a great set of posters
could never understand why our Merchant Navy Lads
were not rewarded, their danger was as terrific as the RN

Dennis I have allways thought that. My Father in Law was sunk three times and in the end his nerve snapped and he jumped ship in South Africa and stayed their for 18 months before he got on a ship to come home.I sat up with him till the early hours listening to how he watched his comrade drowned before his eyes and he had not got the strength to help them, it haunted him all his life, I cried a lot with him.....

No 125 / 6 New Street a shop that was used for the Food Hints Shop which gave all kinds of advice to save Food and the war on waste

Aston, A lot of controversial poster came out of both wars this is a good example, so what does that say about the Crusaders ? and the drumhead services that both sides held before killing each other ?

Saving paper was a habit we all got into right into the 50's then it tapered off but today the same message is being put across to save and recycle
