Oh - thanks everyone who posted pics and clips of the Woodman. They brought back such memories! I spent a good deal of my youth in that pub - it was very much a student pub in its latter days. I was there on the evening it closed - a pretty wild night - I remember everyone smashing their glasses in the fireplace. I agree, it was an absolute disgrace it was demolished and the fittings destroyed.
The wooden carving of the woodman which stood in the bar went to the Woodman in Clent, where the idiots put it in the garden and it rotted away!!
