Wimbush Bakery

I have seen a lot of people mention the Pineapple Tart we made at Wimbushes so..............

I tracked down some green Vermicelli strands, Pineapple essence but I could not get the artificial cream we used or the foils as they were only found at Wimbush made to fit our Multiblock, Anyway here we are.

My dad work there for 26 years Alan Frisby used to call him Reg

I used to go with him to take the van back to the yard (I was abut 5 or 6 yrs old)
I remember Derek Peel it's was his manger and he came to his funeral.
I also remember Dave Daniels I sure he gave me a doll in a wedding dress

Hi there, I am new to the group but spotted this and had to say I knew your dad well he was one of the nicest men I ever met. He was always so smart and was very well respected by everybody who knew him there and it was a pleasure to have worked with him.
Hi Justin.
Thank you for your kind words.

These were always my favourite cake, they do not seem to make cakes like they used to. They are mainly too sickly nowadays, or maybe my taste-buds have changed.

Hi all. I have just found out that a great uncle of mine who died in an Air raid in 1940 was in some way linked to Wimbush as their name is on his writeup in the official book, I do not know if it was because he worked there or the actual bomb raid was there at the works I hope someone can enlighten me. His name was John Hewitt born 1888 died age 52yrs. Regards Acklam19.

Just came across this interesting site whilst looking for my Mom’s 1905 birth place at 3 Beech Grove (off Miles Street). Went on to find the discussion about A.D. Wimbush & Son where my father, Fred Botting and Mom, Ada Bradley were employed when the business was first opened in 1925.

Dad was employed there as a Foreman up to about 1953 and I would think Mom probably up until she had their first born in 1934 ish.

I doubt that any of the ex employee’s of Wimbush’s on this site would remember my parents but you may find the photo of interest despite its poor quality.

Hi, I have recently purchased a daimler shooting brake which I believe was one of two originally commissioned by Wimbush bakeries in approx 1946, registration number FWD 849. I know its a long time ago now but I wondered if anyone here might have any recollection of its time with the company?
Sadly, the history of the car has been lost so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jerry
I have recently joined this forum and only just read your message
I was an Apprentice at Wimbush in Small Heath from 1976-1979 and then worked in quality control and new product development from 1979-1983 when I got transferred to Mothers Pride bakery in Garretts Green due to a round of redundancies .
As I former Apprentice I have many a tale to tell lol.
I have very fond memories of my time there.
If you are still wanting any info message me and I will be pleased to assist if I can.

Does anybody remember John Donohoe?
He used to be the supervised in the cream room

I am sure I will know you too I lived in Merganser until I was 18, if yo can message me your name if it is allowed and private of course. Dad is still going 89 now, Mom passed on the 30 December we have the funeral at Sutton Crematorium 10am 8th Feb.
I’m so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing! I was an apprentice in the early 80s and remember your parents fondly. Your mom was always talking about her dogs when we briefly worked together in the bridal room .
