I can taste it from here!I have seen a lot of people mention the Pineapple Tart we made at Wimbushes so..............
I tracked down some green Vermicelli strands, Pineapple essence but I could not get the artificial cream we used or the foils as they were only found at Wimbush made to fit our Multiblock, Anyway here we are.
Oh so that's next on the list my dad always used to nick one on his roundswimbush christmas time trifles![]()
Hi Justin.Hi there, I am new to the group but spotted this and had to say I knew your dad well he was one of the nicest men I ever met. He was always so smart and was very well respected by everybody who knew him there and it was a pleasure to have worked with him.
These were always my favourite cake, they do not seem to make cakes like they used to. They are mainly too sickly nowadays, or maybe my taste-buds have changed.I have seen a lot of people mention the Pineapple Tart we made at Wimbushes so..............

What a magnificent life’s story! A true entrepreneur and pioneer!Didn't know that there was a family link between Wimbush and Bywaters.

I was an Apprentice at Wimbush in Small Heath from 1976-1979 and then worked in quality control and new product development from 1979-1983 when I got transferred to Mothers Pride bakery in Garretts Green due to a round of redundancies .
As I former Apprentice I have many a tale to tell lol.
I have very fond memories of my time there.
If you are still wanting any info message me and I will be pleased to assist if I can.

Hi. My dad was Sales Manager from around 1969 to 1973. Name Cedric Tarsky. So your dad will remember him.My brother Billy worked for Wimbushs at Small Heath for many years, late 60s early 70s as a delivery driver, mostly night work, to get the product out there to shops so that when they opened their doors those lovely cakes were there for the public. I was about 16 and still at school and asked if there was any chance of earning a bit of dough (oops pun ) by helping out. It was Easter and the hot cross buns needed delivering. I think I started at 10 at night, immediately fell asleep once I was in the truck and only woke up when my brother had finished his deliveries ! Yes it was a one day job. My brother didnt think I was cut out to work nights. But oh all of their cakes were so good, I should know I tried them all as my brother often dropped some samples off for the family to taste.

Hi there, this information may be significant to your uncles story:- my grandfather was attached to the Fire Service during the 2WW, one of the worst bombing raids in Small Heath was when bombs hit the BSA, but also the Library/Swimming baths was badly hit in a raid, and given that the building faced Wimbush, i would think it also suffered some fall out if not hit.Hi all. I have just found out that a great uncle of mine who died in an Air raid in 1940 was in some way linked to Wimbush as their name is on his writeup in the official book, I do not know if it was because he worked there or the actual bomb raid was there at the works I hope someone can enlighten me. His name was John Hewitt born 1888 died age 52yrs. Regards Acklam19.
