Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
They seem to be going pretty quickly these ones. Lets see how we get on with this one.

No sorry it's neither of those, obviously the members that recognise these schools are going to be in more cases than not ex pupils, perhaps when identifying them you might be able to tell us a little of their history or even a personal memory or two.

Sorry Old Boy and Jean but it went four hours ago to fujifreak, it's Floodgate School. I know nothing about this school other than the fact that it is still there, but is now part of South Birmingham College.

This is in fact the old school of St. Michaels RC. I should know I went there for 6 months and there is a thread under obviously " Schools"

Yes, St Michaels moved there in 1943 or thereabouts after their old school was bombed.
It was initially Floodgate Street Board School.

Sorry Phil and thanks at the same time. Hope I do better next time as my teacher used to tell me. Jean.

This is exactly the type of discussion I am trying to encourage. obviously we all know a great deal about the schools that we attended, but how much do we know about the other schools that we passed by every day perhaps?

Hi Phil: Thanks for posting the school photos. It's true that myself and I imagine a lot of us don't know much about the schools that we pass by and those that were not
located in the areas where we grew up. There is a list of old Birmingham Schools and their origins on the British History UK site.https://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=22984 However, it would be great to have more recent information on the schools that have survived over the decades and are still being used. Only one of the schools I attended is still in use, that is Marsh Hill Junior and Infants school in Erdington built in 1929. It has been completely rebuilt in recent years though. The other two schools Lawrence's College on Corporation Street, demolished several years ago and Fentham Girl's School in Erdington, still standing but used as an Education Resource Centre. Fentham School closed in 1979. It was discovered in 2003 that the school would have been 100 years old in 2004. A reunion was arranged and held at
Sutton Town Hall in April 2004. 350 ex pupils attended. Here is an outline of this event. https://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/Discussion/613937 Can't believe that come next year 10 years will have passed since this reunion.
