Where is This? Garages #17

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
This game never fails to amaze me, I would have thought the last one would have lasted no time at all. As I am expecting this one to have legs. I suppose it will go on the first guess. It's an interesting photo though.

You are of course quite right, but that has always been my trouble "living in the past". I've fixed it now.

dont know why but this one conjours up the name of fred hanks...looks like hanks shop on slade road but im not sure he had a shop there in those early days...great pic phil...

Do my eyes deceive me but it looks as if the headlights are fitted with WW2 blackout deflectors right or wrong, i don`t have a clue were the garage is!!, super photo. Len

I'm not very good at this but wonder if it is in Aston Road North, and the motorcyclists are from the Norton which was only a couple of streets away in Bracebridge Street.

Phil I know where it is I've seen the photo.

I'm beginning to have doubts myself about the address given on this photo. The address given doesn't seem to match on Google and the old properties are still standing.Where do you think it is Alf?

Phil

hi sylvia...the norton factory and bracebridge st also crossed my mind...it will be interesting to find out where it is though....

hope you are well...

A New twist on where is this? - We suggest a place and Phil tries to find a photo of a garage that fits?

Sorry Phil could not resist though I know I should.

You don't know how true that statement you have made is, when I get two or three people suggest an alternative location to the one I have on the photo I check it out as best I can. Google can be a great help in this. I have checked it and it doesn't look to be the same place to me. I'm only waiting for Alf to tell me where he thinks it is, as he has seen the photo before. Then If it is not the same as what I have then I will cancel the game.

Alf,

I think you are right but the location given with the photo I have is the corner of Powell Street and Summer Hill. That couldn't be right as it would be "The Stores" pub on one corner & a factory premises on the other. So I think I will declare you the winner. As it seems it is the product of another badly researched photo.

Phil

Excuse me Phil, but I got the location right first - the only time, and then you credit Alf with my award - shame on you.

I have looked up Powell Street in my Wakelin's Guide, (l) leading off 24 Aston Road North - Alf is right on that.
(2) off 194 Camden Street to Summer Hill Road, B1.

Is it Shufflebottoms on the corner of Ladypool Rd at the lights opposite the park.
Or is it Len Onslows on the Stratford Rd?

Sylvia

Please accept my apologies, but Alf was the first one to mention Powell St and that is what I needed because of the mix up over the wrong address with the photo.

What if I award you half the win each will that get me forgiveness, I'm sure Alf won't mind.

Phil

Phil of course you are forgiven - I will accept half the award with Alf. I was just so proud of myself for identifying one of your photos. Pride comes before a fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
