lyn

Phil i might have it can,t remember the name of the cinema but would it be on the Hagley Rd where the M5 crosses under on the way to Halesowen. Dek.

Dave is right first Hagley Rd West in between Ridgeacre Rd and College Rd

Which is approximately where Dave Riley placed it. I do think that Dek & Lyn also deserve recognition. Dek because he was in the right place, but just didn't know where he was. Lyn for getting the name of the road nearly right.

Lyn & Dek what you should do is buy yourself an old map of Birmingham, it makes things easier and it still can be useful if you get yoursel lost.

Phil

hi dek..when i suggested hagley road phil said i was missing something...no laughing.now..could be the west bit which is what dave said..

lyn

Thanks Phil, I would not have got it without Lyn'd & Dek's help. I will share the prize with them. By the way what is the prize? don't tell me, let me guess, a bottle of Corona pop! Don't forget the three straws.

Phil, I should have got it long ago, I am only down the road from there, must get me Quinton history books out again and brush up!

Phil I never get lost in Brum my trouble is its all in me head and it takes a lot longer to find it these days.Dek

You were my main worry with this one, knowing that you lived in the area. I hope you enjoyed your day out. You must tell me when you have your next.

I could claim that, but I didn't even know about the Tesco's. I made the loose reference to "express" because of the nearness of the Quinton Expressway and the demolition probably was because the construction of that and the cutting through of the M5 in the locality. Though on reflection it was probably more to do with the M5. But how do I manage to get M5 into a clue.

Phil

Actually Phil, you did give a clue in the picture itself. A.W.Slim was definitely visible on the photo, even though you blanked out two of the names .

Just a quick update on the area; The Kings Highway pub is no more, it was demolished a few months ago, also the nice little cottages next to it are boarded up and look like they are to go shortly. This is all for the construction of a new supermarket, as if we have not enough of them already. The cinema is still standing and so is the Co-Op next to it. Does any one know the exact location of the picture, it may be either where the motoraway now goes through or possibly where there is now a Methodist church.

Mike

If I was your form master I would take that magnifying glass off you until the end of term and make you stand in the naughty corner for the rest of the period.

I didn't think Slim's corn merchants were visible, next time I will take more care.

As far as I can make out this was the location of the Café. I have marked it X in red on the map. I have also attached a recent photo of the location.

Not coming from the area in question I cannot be sure of these facts, but perhaps Lloyd who seemed to recognise the location could give us his views.

Hi, This photo is on the opposite side of the road to the Classic Cinema on the Hagley Road.

Hi, This photo is on the opposite side of the road to the Classic Cinema on the Hagley Road.

I thought so, a bit further up, being demolished when the M5 was built. I've amended the map - although, thinking about it again, perhaps it was the other side, next to the cinema? Certainly there, one side or the other!

It sure looks like St Mary's and All Saints Church at Chesterfield to me as well Mike.
