I think the building to the right was the Netherlands, Mexico and Czech consulates.

Just got in to check on this and Phil and Lloyd cracked it! Well done. I didn't realise those embassies hired out bikes Mikejee LOL.

The buildings next to the Cycle place were those Embassies that mikejee mentioned in the 50's. So he in reality was the first one correct.

I meant the imposing building next to the bike shop. I didn't want to stop others having a go, but, by chance, two days before I had been looking at another picture taken from almost exactly the same place in "Birmingham in the Electric tram era", wondered what the building was and looked it up. so when i saw your picture i recognised it

Phil,
Thank you for pointing that out. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and that's for sure.
My sincere apologies to you mikejee for not taking your answer seriously and to say that you are the true winner.
(Not being from Brum I think it best I leave the 'Where is this' contributions to you Brum folk with the proper local knowledge).
Again, sorry mikejee and thank you Phil.

Don't take things so seriously, its only a bit of fun after all. Its not as if it was a serious topic.

Keep plugging away, we can all make mistakes. I do often.

You're not the only non-brummie. If I hadn't seen the other picture just before i would have been completely in the dark. You've provided lots of interesting things to the forum even to a non-bus man ( I found the tram book far more interesting for the views rather than the trams)
