Whilst we are all recovering from the disappointment of last night (moral - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"......) - here is a little quiz for you to chew on. All photos are from auctioneers websites and are of objects made in or around Birmingham - all you have to do (unless stated) is to work out what they are. Free ticket to last years cup final for the winner......

He is a star and such and interesting with a lot of lived experience. I have been following the You Tube channel myself
 
Before they went bust, Network DVD issued all of his extant Out of Town programmes on 2 DVD box sets, plus all 60 Old Country programmes and 2 "Further Out of Town" box sets containing recreated episodes from remaining film cans and audio reels that had not survived as original episodes. All the sets are packed with extra old programmes, interviews etc, and even 4 LP records he recorded!! Well worth looking for on the second hand market if you enjoy his stuff. The 2nd Further Out of Town set was actually the last item Network issued before they closed and I believe never went on sale - it was only sent to folk who had pre-ordered so is as rare as hens teeth. Note - check they are Network issues, and not from earlier as these sets are VERY expensive!

Yes, definitely some kind of pouch that attached to a belt I think.

3. Some kind of food cover, maybe for a dish of cheeses or fancy cakes.
7. The little M&B bottle - did they produce some kind of tonic?
9. I've seen one of these somewhere! Scales for weighing edibles in shops - perhaps cheese or cooked meats?
10. To hold a compass?
11. A retractable tool or pencil?
12. Clock for sitting on the sideboard or mantlepiece?
13. Hair or clothes brush?
14. Pincushion
20. Whistle?

5) This is a Lanternscope - made by W Tyler of High St Aston in 1890
6) Lee Enfield Oil Bottle - made by Henry Jenkins & Co
7) This is a Whiskey Flask Bottle - I presume used if you purchased from an outdoor
8) The BSA emblem dates from the 1950s and would go on your front fender
9) These are butchers scales from Carnegie and Layton - you could cut meat on the stone slab which could then be removed for cleaning
10) This silver case held half sovereigns - made by Frank Banks in 1912
11) This is a propelling pencil holder made by E Banks in 1930
12) This is Lloyds Bank wall clock from the 1970s - made by (no relation) M A Lloyd
13) A silver mustache brush from 1907
14) Shoe Pin Cushion made by A E Williams
15) This is a machine gunners oil can from 1942
16) Made by Lucas
17) Conway Cameras were made by the Standard Camera company
18) Brooklands Automobile Racing Club
19) This is a stoneware Apothecarys pot
20) This is a matchstick safe made by W Adams in 1902
21) Poor old Gary Pendrey only earned £18-0-4
