What does USD or U.S.D. mean?

I have two birth certs with USD in the address. eg. Herbert Road, U.S.D. This one dates from 1886 and is Aston, Deritend. The second is Bolton Road U.S.D. which is 1888, same district.

Apologies if this has been asked before. The search engine reveals nothing in this forum. I have found a post by manually searching wherein U.D. is revealed as Urban District which is close but what then is the S.

Thanks.

I've never noticed those abbreviations anywhere else and I have GRO certs for London and rural areas both before and after 1886-88. Then I find it on two Aston certs. I guess it is unique or at least common in Birmingham?
