Water Orton

Hi there
Looking for any information and photos of the police houses at 165-167 Birmingham Road Water Orton. I love to know when they were built, or if anyone remebers the families that lived there. I was born and lived in one of the house in the 60's and early 70's and I'd like to research the buildings further.

with thanks

I thought the residents of Water Orton may like this poem by my ex-manager, Spencer Lucas, when I worked in the Technical Dept at Fort Dunlop from 1958 until 1965. He moved to Water Orton when he got married in 1958 and only recently relocated to Scotland to live near his daughter after the death of his wife.
Spencer is a gentleman and residents who read this may remember him.

St Peter & St Paul, Water Orton. The church was built in 1878–79 (architects Bateman & Corser) with a 100-ft spire. The spire was removed in 1987 after it was declared unsafe; the parish notes the dismantling cost was about £20,000 (mostly met by the church and Diocese). The building is Grade II listed.

My main memory of Water Orton as a lad (lived in Maxstoke then) was going to see the dentist, Mr Ashurst who was a kindly many with shiny bald head and gold rimmed glasses. The awful taste and smell of the rubber mask when they gave gas for extractions then.....
He also sometimes practiced in a surgery in Coleshill where I remember having 4 fillings on a single visit and in thse days, no local anaesthetic.........
