Re the picture of a boy on a bike just posted on the main site. I am fairly sure the boy is Reg Upson (Upton)? and the shop behind him on the corner of Upper Webster/Parliament Street was run by Cissie McHugh.
Patsi...have you visited www.astonbrook-through-astonmanor.co.uk , I am sure that the photo in question is on that website somewhere, I do have it on my friends reunited page, but since they have changed the layout, I am now unable to find it....
I can recall helping a mate of mine work in one of the back of houses in Upper Webster Street, around 1967/68, and what sticks out in my memory was that the boxroom, was covered in Beatles photo's or wallpaper, I lived in Clarendon St from 1953 till 1969 and was the local paper boy and I didn't know that these house where there until then.....
I'm that eldest daughter Patsi was talking about and I'm still a Beatles fan! This site is bringing back some memories!
Hello,Cissie Mchugh was my Auntie. I remember her shop. It was my Grandmothers before Cissie took it over. Aunty Ethel recently passed away aged 101 or 102. Love to hear from anyone who remembers the Mchugh's
Yes I'm on Facebook. Married name Wendy Burman. I live in Ardrossan, SA. I'll see if I can find you on Facebook. Keep in mind the time difference. I'm usually going to bed when you're getting up.Hello Wendy,
I'm so pleased to hear from you, thank you. I've just spoken to dad and he says hello, he was also really pleased to hear you'd got in touch. He also said he'd found photos of you all when your family left for Australia. Dad is not great with computers but Elly (Sarah's oldest) will set him up on Facebook if you use that so he can send photos to you if you would like? I'm on Facebook name - Sam Kidd (Sheffield). We hope you are all well, love Sam
Haven't been able to find you on Facebook. Hopefully you can find me. I'll keep trying. Maybe you've set up privacy which doesn't allow me to discover details. There are a lot of Sam Kidds out there. I've changed my privacy setting to make it easier for you to find me.Hello Wendy,

Hi Treen and welcome to the forum, there are lots of members that lived in this area and I have a vague recollection of a shop at the top of Upper Webster Street. If you look at this website we have a picture of the pub which was opposite the shop. I would love to see any images you have and add them to the website.Hi Folks, Just registered here for the first time.
I've been researching our family tree on Ancestry and come up with something I had forgotten being told by my mom years ago when she was still alive...
According to the UK Trade Directory from 1770-1941, my great-grandfather owned a shop at 53 Upper Webster Road from around 1912 to at least 1940 (then in his 70's). He died at 100.
I recall being shown a photo of the shop that had appeared in a local newspaper, but would have to do some digging through boxes of old B&Ws to find it again.
His name was James, his wife was Eliza (or Lizzie).
She died months before I was born and he passed one year later.
Just wanted to share that with you.
If I can dig out the photo, I'll post it here
