This might be of help to anyone researching the ancestors with the lesser known uniform of Public Safety Officers (Inter Allied Control Commission for Germany).

I thought this was an interesting account of the making of uniforms in Birmingham. It doesn’t give the name of the business. Viv.






Officers could pop into Austin Reed in New Street for their uniform, with tailor-made or Ready-for-Service options.

Thanks for that very interesting article, Viv. What I find staggering is the mention of a possible weekly wage of £25, even for skilled men such as these. That's about five times an average factory worker's income at the time. The price of the end-product - a hand-made officer's uniform - must have been equally eye-watering as a result.

The house dates to around 1920’s Pete so I recon WWII is right

Can anyone identify the uniform of the person on the right for me please ? Could it be Coldstream Guards ? The person on the left (my Dad) is wearing RAF uniform, the person on the right is his brother-in-law who I know was later in the CGuards (in the 1960s). Photo taken, I think, very soon after the end of WW2 in Yorkshire. The original photo is very small 2"x1.5" so afraid the detail isn't very good. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can anyone identify which branch of the services this is. My uncle is amongst this group and I am sure that he served at sea. He would have enlisted in Warwickshire.View attachment 100921

The cap badge and collar dogs (badges) suggest the Royal Marines.
Possibly the RM Gunnery School at Fort Cumberland?
