This Shouldn't be to hard

Alf

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
Its 125 years old this year

Never Changed its Label

Made at the same Factory

Same Ingredients.

Holds the record for the oldest Brand in the World

It last better than Wine

One Tin last year was opened after 74 years and tasted better than when it left the factory.

Got it:)

Well let's see now......Jamie Oliver had a tin on one of his recent
"At Home" shows. I always like a spoon on my rice pud. Can it be Tate & Lyle Golden Syrup. Hope so Alf. It's sugar based so would last a very long time.

Good on you Jenny now that the rest of the Folks know lets have a few favorite ways they like to eat it or whats a way we have not heard of:rolleyes:

We used to have a tin around all the time years ago. Treacle Tart at school
so very sweet but nice all the same. The Christmas Cake often got a dollop
to keep it moist and sweet. I am sure people will have lots more uses.

Suet pudding

Poured over suet pudding, YUMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
OR JUST OFF THE SPOON.....:D.......Cat:)

Catkin don't think I want my Beans On Toast now for Lunch:Musicdj06:For Suet Pudding:D WITH

Treacle.

:P Hi Alf. I love it on bana fritters. Can only eat one they can become sickly. Had your tin of peas on the photo of you xmas presi. TTFN. Jean.:P

Alf I always have to keep a tin in or should I say a bottle as I prefer the new plastic bottle as you can wipe it easier when the treacle runs down the side as mine alway seemed to, getting back I have to have some in as when ever the grandchildren come for dinner the only pudding they want is treacle sponge, They came down yesterday for dinner, they have just got back from a skiing holiday and I always do a nice roast for them,my daughter says she misses a roast on hols so it is a ritual when they get back to come over and guess what I did for pudding 2 treacle sponges.
They ate every bit ,poor Tony, I dont do puddings much now, trying to watch the wieght so he thought doing two there would be some left for him today not a chance.

This Shouldn't be too hard

Alf, I bought a tin of treacle only last month for the first time in ages, I used to make a lot of steamed treacle puds but not often these days. Since I had to have a false tooth on a plate in January I can't eat muesli with nuts and crunchy bits, so I bought some porridge and put about a quarter of a teaspoon in it - it's lovely. First time I have had porridge in 49 years!!! when I was pregnant I was mad on porridge with treacle and had it every morning, but once my son was born never touched it again.

While it's on my mind

Alf, do you remember the lady that lived in Gypsy Lane that made toffee apples and rounds of toffee on a stick for a penny......:)...Cat

I remember the Toffee Apples Mom use to get them from her, but where about did she live, can you remember:)

When we were kids, Mom used to dissolve some golden syrup in a drop of boiling water and pour it into a bottle of milk to sweeten it, then we would pour it on our porridge. It was absolutely delicious. I liked it much better than the sugar.:)

Remembering

Alf, i can only remember:rolleyes: that it was a house with a side entrance almost at the bottom of the road by the entrance to the lakes...:)..Cat

Florence, that was a Good idea that your Mother had....:)

Alfie and Cat, do either of you remember Toffee Apple Jo's in Witton. Almost opposite the Bug and Flea. He made all sorts of sweets as well as toffee apples. My favourite was troach, he made slabs and cracked the slabs with his toffee hammer:)

Troach I loved I can't remember the shop but was it where the Villa Caf'e was or is? but who could forget the Bug & Flea.

There was a photo of it on the Brum Cinemas I believe:)

Troach drop.

 Sorry Arthur but I can't stand the things. If I see any around I will let you know. Prefer a tasty murray mint. TTFN. Jean.

Bug adn Flea

Di, where was the bug and flee..........:)...Cat

Troach were they brown and oblong shaped.

Cat, it was the Empress cinema in Witton Road, about a 100 yards past the Broadway, Toffee Apple Jo was on the other side of the road.

You are right Alfie, there was a photo, I wish I had copied it, I'll have a search tomorrow.:)

You can sometimes find troach, Arthur. I think I got some from the sweet shop next to the back to backs in Hurst Street. In East Anglia they call it Paragoric.

Paragoric!! sounds like the lurgie to me. That's a new one. I used to buy Troach for my Mother at the old Erdington Market in Barnabas Road. I
got to like it after snaffling a few pieces on the way home.

Paragoric , cheers (hic )

Yo :D Jennyann & Di,, mmh that Paragoric is East Anglian ? for
bit of a "come down! opiate derivitive,, favoured by ex alcs etc
methinks Troachies are stronger when you get 6 in your mouth
all at once  I got the record in aarh house ahah
but only got 3 sisters so easy peasey,, Yo John Y

Snaffling

I have not heard that word for years. SNAFFLING. sounds good to me. wonder:rolleyes: where it came from...Cat...:)

Sorry to be a doubting Thomas, but I can't believe that Tate & Lyle's Golden Syrup as we knew it is still made in the same way in the same factory in Birmingham and comes in the same tins.
And as for being the same stuff, well . . . . most of our sugar these days I understand is made from sugar beet grown in this country. In those wonderful bad old days it came from cane imported from the some place in the empire.
Peter

thank you

Thank you for that Alf,:) to me it was always taking something up quickly before any-one else had a chance.
Peter,:) you i would think are correct, is anything the same these days.
Cat...:)
