Back in the 50's in Alum Rock Road down on the left between the Rock and the Gate was this shop called "The Shop That Stands On A Bob" I can't remember what it sold but my cousin and me had long conversations as to how it got it's name when we passed it. We reckoned either it was built on top of a shilling coin or better still somebody called Bob was buried underneath it. Kids have great imaginations. Can anyone tell us after all these years the true reason for the name please?
