The Roebuck Hotel Handsworth and The Globe Hotel Rugeley

My Great Grandfather Richard Birch Daykin was the Publican at the Roebuck Hotel 134 Solo Hill Handsworth in 1891 and The Globe Hotel Rugeley, where he finally drank himself to death on the 6th April 1899. Has anyone any idea where i could purchase any photographs or memorabilia from either establishment, or if anyone knows of either pub.

Roebuck Inn

Here is a photo of the Roebuck Inn, 130 Soho Hill, corner of Hamstead Road. Not sure how clear it will be though. I'm not sure of the date of the photo but the managers were given as (1) J Neville and (2) W Orton.

John was that the same Richard who was a Cab Proprietor who employed 2 Men 1881 Census

The Roebuck Hotel & Richard Birch Daykin

Richard Birch Daykin is the same one who appeared on the 1881 census as a cab proprieter employing two men (in Ilkeston) - anyone related ??
 
Roebuck & Globe Hotel

John....came across this photo, the Globe Hotel is in the centre of the photo....I would say this was taken around the early 1900's.....and another which I seen on ebay 1916

John, I can assure you your Granddad wasn't the last to drink himself to death in the Roebuck, it was a thriving place for that pastime until quite recently when it became some sort of Muslim community establishment - some change, huh?

I have many anecdotes about the place including a quoted comment from Eugene, the landlord at the time of the relaxation of opening times. When told he could now open all day from 11.00am - 11.00pm he said he wasn't reducing his hours for anyone.

He had a barman working for him who would drink in the Endwood till throwing out time before starting his shift at the Roebuck.

Sadly, a couple of years before it closed, there was also fatal stabbing right outside the front door.

Bangles5652, It does seem strange that he moved down-market but I think you'll find it the other way around. Eugene left the Grove to keep the Roebuck.
