would any one like to visit the old lodge at witton cemetry??
as the managing agents for the lodge we have extencivly restored the building lovingly with the last of the origional features also you can see the stone masons marks in a few places
this building has had over £200,000 spent on it and there are a few interesting features that are still to be restored

:553:

we would like to have an open day for those who would like to view

Terry what a wonderful idea, I have many family members from the past buried there, as many Birmingham people do, if you can make it a reality I would like to visit.

I have not found any of my family but my husband has many buried at Witton. It's a great idea.

Terry,
I should be interested in a visit, preferably late morning or afternoon. Perhaps we could arrange a small party at a convenient date?

What a great idea Terry. I know many people would be interested in
viewing the restoration and learn something of the history of the people who lived there. I once was local and passed by almost every weekday and
often wondered what would become of the place.

When details are finalised it would be great to make an announcement on this forum.

Great news on the lodge refurbishment,i knew the last resident he passed away about ten years ago,i used to drink with him in the Diggers

When he passed away the building was left in disrepair and vandalised, there was talk about the council were going to turn it into flats to rent

If anybody goes for a visit it would be a good idea to pop into The Diggers and speak to a lady who lives in the cottage on the right hand side just inside the gates her name is Mary she is the lunchtime cook.

Her husband was named Brian he was a grave digger at witton for years,he was given the cottage for rent, but when he passed away about seven years ago they let Mary and her son stay in the cottage she has the keys for the main gate.......:)Mossy

Do you know if there is still a keepers house on The Ridgeway side.?...Cat
