The Old Green Man

We call our corner of the Lad the GWR ( God's Waiting Room)
The 2 chaps in the corner, Bob and Colin have left the waiting room, RIP

That's both touching and funny Froth! Nice to be able to remember friends in that way.

Do you know roughly when Ansells did their changes to the pub? Viv.

On 25 April 1952 the building received listed status. This was altered on 8 July 1982 so that it became a Grade II listed building.

Must have been early 80s because I do believe Ansells got the pub downgraded to Grade II so they could change the inside.

Thanks Froth for the info.

I expect a lot of people have left that particular waiting room since 1400. I'd suggest the landlord removes that clock, out of keeping with the late medieval ambiance of the place. After all, they wouldn't have had one all those hundreds of years back now would they. Hope it's not got a loud tick .... that would be truly depressing .... being able to see AND hear time passing. And without a clock ...... "No officer I didn't realise we'd passed opening hours, you see no clock ..." Bet that's been said a few times over the centuries too. Viv.

I don't know if this has been posted before. I think its a lovely photo of The Old Green Man or The Lad In The Lane, Bromford Lane c 1895.

I need more photos of the Lad In The Lane. Think I've seen every photo of the Lad there is but you never know someone might have one I haven't seen.

Frothy, that post #128 from Wendy would make a nice painting, do you know the colouring of the lettering (looks white) and the background of the sign ? Eric

Oh yes Eric it certainly would make lovely painting.
I have no idea of the colouring of the name. I've never seen colour photos of the pub with the that name on the roof?

Thanks Frothy, I will have to guess, white or gold lettering with either Green or Maroon background, you can have it if it turns out OK, I have just downloaded it. Eric
