30.Witton Road 2006

My late mother-in-law used to play piano accompaniment to silent films in the Empress. (by red car) I wonder why I didn't ever go in there - Saturday mornings saw me at the Odeon, Perry Barr.

36.Churchill Road from St. Mary's Church 2005

When I was a child I used to walk to Handsworth Park when that corner shop just sold ice cream, cigarettes & sweets. Now it has become a mini-Asian supermarket

42.Westminster Road Primary School 2006

This was my first primary school and I have nothing but the fondest memories of it - the first and last year I enjoyed attending a school. I remember that part of the playground was grassed over, but there's no sign of any grass now.

8.Erdington Public Library 2005

This was built facing the Green on the site that used to be occupied by the Erdington Workhouse. In the distance can be seen the Honeywell building, which looks new but I remember it being there in the 1960s. In the immediate foreground is a small green post that went unnoticed at the time of the photograph so I can shed no light upon its purpose.

Update 26/7/08: I've since examined it and it appears to be an iron buffer to deter vehicles from driving over the kerb to cut off the corner.

10.Corner Station Road Gravelly Lane 2005

When I worked in Erdington in the 1960s, Rickards Motorcycle shop was over there. He and the owner of the Boldmere Road Motorcycle shop were brothers but they wouldn't readily admit it!
