Re: Billesley Arms 'New Pub'

My Great Grandfather (Charles Charman) is listed in the 1901 census as the publican of the Billesley Arms, Wheelers Lane, Yardley, Worcestershire, England. Would this be the same pub in the 1925 photo? I am in Australia and don't know Birmingham or area names that well.

Spent may hours in there in the 60's playing darts and crib , then there was Ginger the waiter in tails serving drinks in the lounge. It also had glass plates on our side of the gents urinals do you didn't splash your shoes. Had a bowls green at the back and a garden where we drank in the summer.

Anyone go to Billesley School or Swanhurst Girls Schools (just over the road)

I used to use it in the 80s, had a great menu rib eye steak comes staight to mind ,and some great fish courses . Loads of home cooked food as well. Then sadley Ansellls turned into thier version of a steak house, offering poorer quality food at a higher price. Havent been for nearly 20 years so no idea what its like now.

We have been planting apple trees outside the Billesley today. I taught at Swanshurst from 1974-2011 and am still doing a bit!
