He played for England Schoolboys, we went to Wembley to cheer him on. There was a boy called Summerfield, he could have been in your year, I'm sure he played pro football. My memory is not good and sketchy at best, maybe it'll come back sometime

I recall a guy called Barry who lived on Harcourt Road. He was a carpenter for the Council Housing Department for a while and he built a wooden car in the front garden. Two years since anyone last posted here, but I'll ask in case some lost soul is still walking the corridors! Does anyone remember Barry Thompson, who was at the Senior School (as we called St Thomas's Secondary Modern) from 1959 to, I guess, 1965? We were friends at junior school but lost touch after I went on to St Philip's Grammar, then I was in care from 1962-65 on the far side of the city after emotional problems messed up my schooling. I did bump into him a few years on when he was driving a big old Mk.9 or Mk8 Jaguar and working as a carpenter. Lived in Harcourt Road near Shortheath Park. Had an older brother Peter(?). His mum worked at school dinners I think.
Could well be the same guy. He built a wooden boat in the back garden when we were at junior school (1958?) - a pram dinghy made of hardboard on a wood frame, waterproofed with tar. We carried it 2 miles to Sutton Park and paddled it across Powell's Pool - filling quite briskly with water but we made it, to be met by park keeper telling us we weren't allowed to land at what was the yacht club jetty. I don't know how deep that pool was but with hindsight it was a pretty risky venture. I think his house was No.12. EDIT: Just found info that pool depth is about 2 metres.I recall a guy called Barry who lived on Harcourt Road. Now you have said that I have this very vague recollection of him building a boat, but I could be filling gaps. There was a trend at the time for budding sailors to build the mirror dinghy, a boat you could make form a single sheet of ply y a method of stich and tape.Could well be the same guy.
