Perhaps someone will correct me here, but was it the 29A bus that took you to Kingstanding Circle and your walked from there, or not. I remember it being quite a lengthy walk.

Yes 29A from the Pheasey via Kingstanding to town

Did the 29 go from Pheasey?

I always remembered the 90 and 91 (one of which went to town and the other carried on to a mythical place called 'Hall Green', somewhere as a child I had read on the front of buses, but could only imagine what sort of a land it was)

Dasher long time ago, I believe the 29 turned around at the trees, but might be wrong, a I said Long time ago

When I lived in Kingstanding from 1952 to 1964 the 29 bus only went to the circle and the 29a went to the Pheasey.

The 29A went to Kingstanding Circle and from there it was a walk down Rough Road to Boldmere Gate. The alternative (for me, at any rate) was the 107 Midland Red to Sutton Town, and a walk down to the Town Gate. The latter was favoured, as it was shorter!

Yes that's it as I remember in the 1940's and 50's. The pontoon and slide were there then, but I still reckon it was the coldest water outside of the North Pole, for some unknown reason. Bracebridge and Blackroot were much warmer even when swam in on the same day. Kind regards, David, Australia.

David it didn't change much in the 60's either I had forgotten about the slide until I saw the picture Peter posted. I never swam in Blackroot they stopped it when I used to go but I loved swimming in Bracebridge out to the island.

There,s a pool little used behind Bracebridge I think it it called Little Bracebridge never swam in there but often fished it as it was out of the way and very quite. Dek

As far as I can remember the 29a bus went a couple of miles past the circle to the Pheasey Estate. I also seem to remember it sometimes showed Baldwins Lane in the destination indicator when going back to town which suggests it may have gone along the Stratford Rd - perhaps this should be in the Buses Thread......
I used to walk from the circle along Rough Rd to Banners Gate and I don't know why the gate had that name.

Dek yes it was Little Bracebridge I often passed it on the way to Big Bracebridge. My friend and I skated on there once but I never swam in it either.

Dave lovely photo's makes me want to go for a walk I will when I finish my decorating. The trees on the island look so big now.

Hey doug44, those photographs of the Jamboree made me sit up and take notice. I'd just arrived back in the UK from hitch hiking in North Africa and walked down to the Meadow Platt to renew old memories. Lovely days of yore. Regards, David.

Don't know if this has been shown before, but I found an old calender with old B'ham pictures.

Here is Keeper's Pool in the summer of 1938.

Everyone enjoying themselves unknowing of the tragedies ahead.

All the best Peter
