He is lovely Chris M. what a lucky chap to have been adopted by you.
At the farm I volunteer at we have a turtle which in a big aquarium. I go to one end and say Hi! Buddy and he looks around and and comes over to the that side. You can see he is listening to me when I talk to him, I just love him. I would never have believed they would do that before meeting him.
I would think he is about 12 years old but I'm not sure I should ask. Mo

My friend went to help at Molly's first zoo which was run in the grounds of her bungalow in Hints......
Hello Wendy I used to catch sticklebacks in a little stream at Hints. Sold them for tuppence each at school and spent the money on Wild Woodbines, packets of five. Regards david.

Thank you Chris & Wendy for sharing memories and the location of Molly Badham's pet shop in Sutton.

I was given a lead that a family member named Molly Evans worked closely with Molly Badham, but have never been able to turn up any reference to her. There was a Nathalie Evans, but that doesn't translate into Molly. Molly Evans was most likely from one of my Evans groups that lived in Sutton Coldfield (Wylde Green) in the 1920s-1940s.

I do recall, nevans7115, that there were two ladies who ran that shop. I always had the impression that they were joint owners but it may have been employer (Molly) and employee (unknown). One of them always seemed to wear cavalry twill trousers.

(It's lucky that after fifty or sixty years one's memory only retains the really important elements of one's life!)

Found this photo of myself in Sutton park our usual day out for a picnic as a child but does anyone recognise the pool in the background. Chears. Jean.

Thats looking towards Monmouth Drive ( I think ) so the pool is ( I hope ) Powells Pool

I missed the end of this thread. Nice photos of the Birmingham Ice Hockey team practising on the ice at Wyndley Pool, Baron. I recognise that scene
since that is where I fell in going along the boards that were laid down in order to get on to firmer ice....never made it. Must have been around the same time because the Pool hasn't had many freeze over since those years.

Jennyanne. I remember a sad experience a friend had while looking after someones dog while they were on holiday. It had been snowing and the pools in sutton park were iced over. He let the dog off it's lead as did it's owners and he ran across the ice by Bobby Browns disappeared through it and was never seen again. It's bad enough if it had been his dog but to have to break the news to the people when they returned. Awful. JEAN.

Sorry Mike i should have said it is still there as we popped in for a drink [or two] last summer. Thought they had changed the name but knowing me i may have dream't it. Jean.

Hi Jean, that photo was taken at the end of the pool by the woods, where the little stream from Longmoor overflow feeds in, La Reserve is way off to the left. If you look at the top right of the picture you can see the training vessel that was used by the Navy Cadets.

Thanks Bren the next nice day [as if] we are taking the dog over there for a walk then maybe stop for a quik one. [A drink] Come with us one day if you like. JEAN.

Hi Jean, The Pool in your photo is Powels Pool, The floating vessel in the background belonged to the sea scouts. Powels pool runs alongside "Boldmere golf course" which in turn runs alongside Monmouth Drive. I used to be a member of the "Sea Cadets" whose headquarters where just outside the park gates at the end od Powels Pool. have many memories of rowing and sailing on that pool.

Goffy have got my bearings now [may be losing my marbles] the little stream by the golf course you are talking about is where I took my twins fishing for stickle backs many many years ago. Climbed through the fence to get to it. By. Jean.

What a wonderful piece Cromwell, I would love to read more.
I'm also interested in the Years of the British Rule in India as my grandmother & father were born there, my grandfather was from Birmingham.
Can you suggest a good site for information
Thank You
Hilary

Unfortunately, Cromwell is no longer a member of this forum. You can find some info on Google. "British in India" or" British Colonial Rule in India" Someone else on here may have a good specific site that you can link to.

How nice Jean. We got back from our van last night the flooding in Wales was quite bad.
I loved going to the La Reserve in the late 60's they had a disco there I used to go with friends on a Monday night. I also remeber the ship that was used for training next to the La Reserve. The last time I went was about 12 years ago for my sons 18th birthday. It was nice but not like it used to be.........memories eh!
