Sutton New Road Erdington

Looks like it to me lyn, a post office nad telephone exchange. There was also a large railway goods yard behind it too, but I do not know if it served the post in any way.

There's a really atmospheric picture at the bottom of the page(see above) of a tram in the rain outside the Picture House in High Street. Just before the trams were re-routed via Sutton New Road I imagine.

cant see a thread for sutton new road...this one is dated 1938 so i am wondering if the large building is the new post office..

The date of the picture , being 1938, is interesting. Here is a picture of the old Post Office in 1937.

Putting Sutton New Road in the BM Collections site gives 166 total results including at least 35 pictures of Sutton New Rd
during the years1937/8/9.

Yes it's High Street not SNRd. Sutton New Road came into existence in the1930s (1937/8). It joined up with Sutton Road. Perhaps its been titled SNRd because many of the photos were about the building of the new road and the large, new post office on SNRd. It's a misleading caption, saying High Street below SNRd.
