Just a twinkle in your daddy's eye . I haven't heard that expression in a while.I now realise why I never saw them, I wasnt born ! Silly me ...
FYI, I watched the trade show highlights/updates a couple of times specifically to look for this. I did not see. The show was focused on cars and controls for cars via computers. Both EV and ICE vehicles.I hope they have done their logistics homework. Ventures like this usually end up costing more £££ than new!
an excuse to pop in for a jar?Well spotted Viv, quite a rare photo, I would imagine, and demonstrates the ingenuity of our forebears, and as stated would have been a very busy junction, no doubt.
Very very nice! What a wonderful look!A nice cluster of bollards and street lamp alongside St Paul's churchyard- captured in late 1960 by Phyllis Nicklin. Quite a contrast between the old lamp post and the newer one (1950'/60s) behind it. Interestingly, the 1960s lamp has been replaced with a more victorian style lamp (as have others along Ludgate Hill), and the replacement has a litter box attached ! Additional bollards, replicating those at the entrance to St Paul's, have been added at the junction with Ludgate Hill. Very well considered modern improvements.

I well remember the horse trough at the junction of Cattell Rd and Coventry Rd.It was made of granite stone and must have been a welcome site for horses that toiled up Kingston Hill from the city centre. This photo of the Greenway Arms, Small Heath has captured a nice selection of street furniture, some pieces now completely disappeared from streets. A tram pole with lamps attached, a police box, a horse trough, a heavy duty bollard and a pillar box, all in one scene ! Must have once been an important junction.

We still watch Mrs BucketWas Cattel a famous Brummie? I ask as I worked with a Joyce Cattel. Never heard it before or since. We never saw it written down we thought it was Kettle made to sound posh, like Mrs Bucket.
Presumably that applied to Coventry and Birmingham. Was it just them? There was a time when fire engines were painted yellow "all the better to see you" ?
Think it was only Coventry.Presumably that applied to Coventry and Birmingham. Was it just them?
Many newer emergency vehicles are being painted yellow now. What comes around goes around! There was a time when fire engines were painted yellow "all the better to see you" ?
