Thanks John but they moved to London: I have them in all the censuses. John Standley was a blacksmith's striker - do you need an apprenticeship for that?

Thomas Standley a Farrier, 139 Digbeth (Also St Martins by Bullring)

Standley family

Great! Perhaps one of the Thomas's was William's dad and that's why John took the trade of blacksmith's striker. William's first 2 children appear to have been named after his wife's parents and the next 2, twins Elizabeth and Thomas, might have been named after his parents...
I must check all this out; thanks, you've given me a good lead.

Jenny - I have a Susannah Standley born 1826 who married William Eccleston. Her father was Isaac. In 1841 the family was living in the parish of Aston. Ring any bells?

Problem is that Birmingham was growing at such a rate - that Parishes were split up to cope with the population

Part of my family of Standley's living at 89 Upper Trinity Street Deritend, were in a a parish but the Parish is no longer there as the church declined

However births at this address are recorded in 1891 an 1889 as in Aston
