Hi to you all,
My brother has just forwarded the link to this forum.
The photograph that was posted was the annual photograph of the School Captains together with the Vice Captains.
I am the School Captain on the right of the photo followed by Rosemary (? ) Glynis (?) and Antony Palmer.
Unfortunately I lost contact with all my old school chums when we all went our separate ways to Senior Schools.
When I was in my final year ( class 8 ) the teacher was Mr Handley, Year 7 was Mr Moore a young guy from Devon or Cornwall.
The Headmaster was Mr Eagles and the School Secretary was Mrs Hollingworth. I keep in contact with both of her children.
In my year were Tony Whitebread, Andy Beal, Alan Price Ray Lee Derek Turner Antony Palmer, Christine Lewes Christine Briggs,
In the final year we would all go on the No 40 bus from Villa Road down to Victoria Baths to try and learn to swim ( even now I cannot swim )
I would love to hear from any of my old class mates.

I have just found your reference to the school railings, I remember the incident well. It happened during a game of football, when Tony WhitbreadI guess its possible that it ceased being a school then, i have attached a pic of the school railings ( that i took last summer ) it shows the welded joint after one of the kids got his head stuck in them and had to be cut out LOL, circa 1956/7
kicked the ball over the railing. In those days the rule was that who ever last kicked the ball had to go and collect it. Tony decided that rather than go all the way around the school he would nip out through the railing. However after returning the ball he tried to come back at a different gap.
We all enjoyed seeing the fire men cut him out.
Not to sure who paid to fix the railing.

Wondering if you have the photo that you could upload or share with me? I believe that Rita Price is my fathers mother so this would be a great image to show him.hello this is Carol Biddle, nee Blunt. My husband Colin has just joined this site. I attended St Silas J and I School from Autumn 1950 to 1955. I have a photo of the school play in about 1952 which I am hoping to put on this website. Some of the children in the play (Cinderella) were Carole Pemberton, Rita Price, Ian Bathie, Nigel Hulse, David Carr, Madeline Chambers, Geraldine Pearson. I can almost remember all the names.! Sadly, I do not have any photos of the building. There was an annexe in Hunters Rd, off Villa Rd, Handsworth. Hope this is of interest to you. Carol.

I took part in a couple of St. Silas's school plays in one I was a Snowdrop with a weired white hat, like petals, on my head. another I was a wizzen old man with a walking stick (reality strikes, appart from the walking stick) chased across the stage by a spider.... I left the school in 1951 when my parents bought a house in Great Barr. That was a culture shock I went from that little school in the church yard with class sizes in the tens and a little playground, to Aldridge Road Junior with class sizes of over thirty and two playgrounds.
Another thing I bet has changed now, is St. Silas's only had one toilet, a slab and gutter for the boys and four cubicals for the girls, Oh the cloakroom for your coats with the row of little sinks down one wall with a lump of red carbolic soap.
