Southside is probably a term invented by PR people employed by the council. Of course it was not necessary for them to have actually visited Birmingham, or know anything about it, so they ignored anything other than a view of the map

It goes as far as Highgate on the Sherlock Street boundary I think. There's parts of Digbeth that's the Irish Quarter around High Street Deritend. It's all multicultural now.

I've got more photos of that cardboard Chinese arch, think they might be breaking it up this afternoon.

I think its quite impressive. Pity it has to dismantled so soon.
I suppose with the possible rain tomorrow H @ S are worried that people will possibly be engulfed by wet cardboard and suffocate.

We also have a Westside around the Broad Street area and a Eastside around the Curzon Street Station area. No Northside as far as I am aware!

Oh and they call the area around Colmore Row the Colmore Business District.

Then down between Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath is the Balti Belt (or Balti Triangle).

So no historical significance apart from possibly the Balti Belt? And that was long after I left.

The Pakistani immigrants invented a dish in the area called a Balti. Bit like a curry I think.

Indeed, Ell, all the manufacturers like Sharwood & Pataks produce a Balti Sauce - and quite nice it is too, if you like curry! If you don't like curry, like my other half, it is pretty repulsive!

I believe the balti originally referred to the bowl the curry was served in. Now it is the curry itself.
