Severn valley railway.

Hi

Yep not an easy problem to solve this one. With Daw Mill gone now the right coal
for Steam Engines will be at a premium Price. The Traditional Coal used for years was
the Hard Welsh Coal that went Years ago. A lot of the now imported coal is Useless for
steam (Brown Coal Eastern European) so those Tickets on the SVR will go up.
The more I see about Coal was has to Question the mess we get into with 800 million
years of a raw Material locked under ground yet all our Fuels we use Gas Oil and Coal are
imported.
Perhaps Arthur was right who knows. Clearly the Grocers shop is happy selling it to us
As an SVR member its worrying. If If its a nice day next week June is a full service C
Im of for the Day but it must be dry there's a problem.
Dad 96 is well got over Mom 96. Im off to Scotland in a Month plenty of Steam and Diesel to see.

A few years ago on a visit to Brum. my sister Joan and her kids took us on the old steam train, it was a WW2 weekend. One of the best trips I have ever had complete with a REAL Spitfire buzzing around. Then all kinds of WW2 odds and sods for sale. Smashing to say the least. lots of real good memories. Thanks Pedrocut we are so lucky to have a caravan at Arley and the railway line is the bottom of the site and we watch the trains go by.

Will give you a wave when I'm on the 40's weekend in July.
Annie
Will more than likely be on one of the trains with our family too Annie. x Let us know when and will look out for you?. Will be wearing my BHF badge Mike Gee delivered by hand.

I remember all the impressionists such as Mike Yarwood used to do Magnus Pyke, when describing something he used to wave his arms all over the place, the best one was when he was describing something that was enormous such as the universe and he would swing is arms out like a windmill :D

We visited to SVR in 2006...a great experience! Took a few pictures but unable to find all of them.

The Arley railway station on the Severn Valley Railway, one of Britain's preserved steam railways, has been used in many films and television programmes (including the BBC's Oh, Doctor Beeching!)as HATLEY. The station was opened in 1862 and closed by British Railways in 1963. It was reopened by the SVR in 1974. The village also has one pub, a tearoom and a post office with shop
