Dear all,,

My Dad, Postie..

Passed away on Thursday night after a short battle with cancer.
He loved this site and it would not be here today without him, the site will continue to run in his honour and Ill keep working tirelessly with the mods to keep it going.

my Dad was an amazing man and we shall miss him immensely and deeply.

please share with me any fond memories you have of my dad.

Warren, I am sorry to hear your sad news, Jim was such a pleasant and friendly man who loved the history of our great city. The forum has made a significant contribution to the understanding of our past and is indeed a legacy to be proud of. Thinking of you and Hilary at this difficult time.
 
Warren ,as I told you earlier everyone on here loved your Dad.
He gave me support when my young grandaughter was diagnosed with
Crohns something he knew of personally.

Although I never met him he became like a friend and I think that is how many members thought of him.
I joined the forum 22 years ago and when there was a danger that the forum would not continue your lovely Dad stepped in and saved it .

Stay strong Warren and thank you for keeping the forum open , your Dad would be very proud of you. Alberta.

We will all miss your father, as he was such a friendly man who was always helpful to everyone, and who, as has been said, ensured the continuance of this forum. Everyone will be thinking of you and Hillary at this time and wishing you well in your grief
 
a lot of members will know this but for those that dont when we almost lost this forum in 2009 ish jim stepped in to take it over along and with the help of warren at the technical end and the support of his wife hilary...this enabled the wealth of information we store to be available not just to the people of birmingham but to those ex pats who live all over the world now...

warren i have many fond memories of your dad ..both he and hilary attended most if not all of the forums meet ups we have held over the years..we always held a raffle with proceeds going to forum funds but it always amused me when very often to give me a rest from shouting your dad followed me around the pub when it was time to draw the raffle..i would take the bag of tickets round for them to be pulled out and pass them to your dad where he would bellow out the winning numbers so that everyone could hear...by the time the raffle had ended (sometime taking 45 mins) we were both quite shattered..

i am so pleased that you intend to carry on with the forum as i cant think of a more fitting legacy to your dad and i am sure i speak for all the moderators in saying we will continue to try our best to run a tidy ship.

so once again my sincere condolences to you..hilary and all the family...

and so another brummie star will light up the sky..god bless you jim

This is very, very sad news. Jim will be sadly missed.He was a lovely man, so kind and always helpful. My sincere condolences to Warren, Hilary and the family.

This site and it's members meant a lot to Jim. In his poem My Cyber Family, the last line reads:

"So pick up your glasses and raise a great cheer
Cuz you are my Cyber Family, and I'm so grateful your here"

To keep the site going in his memory is a very fitting tribute. A heartfelt thank you Warren.

I am so sorry to hear this unfortunate news. I know Jim put his heart and soul into the Forum when he took over, and I know we, the members, will be forever grateful. Please accept my sincere condolences, Warren, for your and Hillary's loss.
 
Sad news indeed, met him at an Easter meet pre covid, realised later that he had Bordesley Green roots, as have I. My great grand parents lived in Third Avenue. Testing time for the forum. RIP Postie.
 
So very sorry to hear this, Warren.

I never met your father in person but we bumped in to each other a few times on various threads, and quickly I could see why he was highly regarded. I did not hear of the Forum's past problems and his wonderful rescue for some time, and since then I have been very pleased that he had done so. Not only has my Birmingham history knowledge been enriched by the myriad everyday insights that contribute so much to it, but also on just a small number of occasions a passing reference on one topic or another has directly led to me discovering things meaningful to my family and to me, that I doubt without your Father's rescue would ever have come along.

Glasses will be raised at the table this evening.
 
Words cannot express the gratitude to your father for taking on the running of the Forum when he did.

The site has enabled members to find out so much about their ancestors and the history of our wonderful city in days gone by and given a wealth of information and happiness to each and everyone of us.

My condolences Warren to you and the family, this is such sad news. The Forum has been such a help to me over the years, not just in genealogy but in friends which I've never met. I do hope you can carry on, I do appreciate all the work.

So sorry to hear the news about your father Warren. I never met him and only gathered information from this site. However, had he not put all the work into this site, neither myself or those who have commented over the last few days on the thread, Oldest and Youngest, none of us would be able to experience the joys of each day being part of what I see as this "family".
Be assured of my continued prayer for you all at this difficult time.
