Derek, You have a treasure trove there. Last summer when I was over that way, it looked sad, dilapidated and run down. I'm also sure half of it was missing.

I have sent you a PM. :)

I like how everyone managed to stand still except that one little girl in the middle.
Good observation that.

Street photography was quite rare then in working class areas. Imagine lumping round an enormous, large format camera with glass plates. It was quite a spectacle so people would often come outside and pose for the camera. Its why a lot of these vintage photos have a lot of people standing in doorways etc.

My great grandfather lived at the Old Farm House on Rupert Street until 1923 and my great grandmother worked at the pub next door. Does anyone know the name of the pub?
i am sure someone can find out the name of the pub for you...with luck someone may even have a photo of it and we may find a map marking out the old farm house

I have looked through directories and maps, and have in early directories found an Oldfarm varnish works but no old farm in Rupert Street. There are several mentions of Oldfarm house in the newspapers, but only one, in 1889, gives a name, William Sale, , who has money stolen from him by two prostitutes, but cannot find him as living in Rupert St in the 1891 census. So unable to determine the position of Old Farm

The circa 1949 map shows pubs at either end of Rupert Street.
Old Nelson on corner with Gt Lister Street.
Rupert Arms at junction with Oliver Street.
Don't know if either were there in1920

Need to find out if we have the right place.
A name is needed - I have located the street on 1921 census but not posting until I have a name.
