Nothing to do with Robinson's, but still another crime in the name of PC. The removal of Mr Golly from the Noddy books. How do you explain to a child where Mr Golly has gone without bringing a word to their attention that they probably have no understanding of "racism".

hi.all i still have my golly (not a robinsons one) it was.given to me when i was a baby.i did have a 5ft one as well but my grand daughter had that one.

So sad about Mr. Golly disappearing from the Noddy books. Children who love Noddy and those stories are bound to notice that Mr. Golly has been replaced and shows up no more. It would certainly be hard to explain. I didn't know about this.

Was there a big shop in Brum called Golliwogs? I remember passing it lit up I think on the no 14 bus.

I also have my Golly's which had to be sent for. I've got the lovely little enamled brooch and the set of musician ones. Not chipped either.

When i was at Solihull Hospital a month ago on the Friends of the Hospital stall there was a selection of knitted dolls including a Golliwog doll and although there was a mix of ethnic races looking at the goods for sale there was no complaint about the Golliwog doll. Len.

Here's my Golly. My Grandma bought him for me for my second birthday, so he'll be 60 in a week's time!

I don't believe these people do mind at all. Only Governments make a big deal about it.

Don't know about that one, but there was a car exhaust-fitting garage on, I think, Moseley Road called "Golliwogs" with the slogan "We don't put jam in jars, we put exhausts on cars"!

When I was 16 I used to work in Vittoria Street down the Jewelry Quarter enameling the golliwog brooches

I have a golly money box that my aunt Nell bought me, the one that you put money in it's hand, press the lever and he eats it. [The money that is]. Made of cast iron I believe?. Jean.

Yes Jean your right cos we used to do those as well.....looking back now and remembering how we all saved the golly's off the jam to get the badges ..Till i worked on them i didnt know they were made in Brum

hi maggie..our mom used to do enamelling...place called fattorini...not in the jewellery quarter though..think it was barr st hockley then...

jean...that money box sounds collectable...hang onto it...

Hiya Lyn Fattorini was one of the biggest enamelers around ..the one I knew WAS in the Quarter in Frederick Street ..think it is still going ..the building with the name on is still there .up the road a bit and opposite the pen museum

Recently a shop in Bromyard was told to remove a Golly from its window by the Police. It made the national papers and TV news. As a result Gollys sprang up all over the place. There must have been lots of well loved golliwogs hidden away from the Politically Correct informers. Anyway the police were left looking daft and Gollys can still be seen.I am glad a sensible outlook has been taken by the members of this forum.
I mentioned the Bromyard Gollys on one forum and a politially correct member went off the deep end.Someone put up a picture and all the other members started to ask where you could buy one as they thought gollys were cute. However I was still being hazed by the PC idiot so I left that forum. I surf the net to enjoy myself not to be bullied by looneys.
I had a much loved knitted Golly which was sadly lost. These gollies were treasured friends of young boys and girls. Did we ridicule the George Mitchell Minstrels in the early days of TV ? No, they were a must see show at that time, it was only in the Enid Blyton " Noddy" books that Golliwogs got a bad press.
