It is an amazing photo, pleased you posted it, as Wendy's photo's too, used to live at the top of Rose Hill (ish) and often walked into Rednal, at one time the old terminus building was turned into a fish restaurant, it was (or still is) a Chinese restaurant, cannot believe how things have changed (and not for the better) thank you both for posting your images.

Great Photo John70 I'm waiting to see a open front No 70 we use to ride to Lickeys on.:)

Anything to oblige, Alf.
A delightfully crisp probably pre-war shot by M.J. O'Connor of car 317 loading in Navigation Street on service 70. The old Matthew Boulton college stands murkily behind and to the right of it, where I studied during my apprenticeship days.

Thanks for the pictures - brings back happy memories of visiting the Lickey Hills as a child.

the bit about matthuw boulton college i spent a few hours there studying and then it was closed down redevelopment and we moved to the new one in pershore rd  :)

That one has gone now Frederick, the new school is in the same building as the Think Tank. Very nice looking but virtually no mechanical engieering left.

Re: Matthew Boulton College

Yes, I went to the new one after - no atmosphere there, just a concrete box.

Sorry I took so long Lloyd Brilliant:)
Thats where we use to catch it

Thanks tardebigge, this would have been a good one for the 'Where is this?' thread but as I don't have or recognize the location on this photo I was keen to find it out.
Mike.

Oh what lovely memories going to the lickys on a tram, brought back lots of lovely times and memories to me , just make me wish id have a camera in thoes days BB

Thanks all, great photos and great memories of our day outings to the Lickey Hills picking bilberries to make our own lovely jam. Getting our hands really black from the juice, punching our names in a metal plate and having our fortune told by a machine at the Lickey tram terminus, was all part of the fun.:)

Graham.

hi Graham :) thought you mite like this for your collection,
and also you Alf not sure if it,s been posted before it,s a favorite of mine,
happy happy days. regards Derek.

nice pic shows where the original phrase of dont see one for ages then they all come together comes from :D our tram experts will tell you exactly where that is stitch:D

Am I correct in assuming this is Bristol Road?
Either there or Pebble Mill Road, both were used to store withdrawn trams after the Bristol and Pershore Roads tramway replacement in July 1952 until they could be taken to Witton depot or Kyotts Lake Road works for breaking up.

Lloyd excuse my ignorance as know noting about trams did they leave them there for long and why, were they driven to be broken up? :)

They were there for a few days, the depots used for breaking could only take a few at a time. Yes they were driven to their final home, including some that had to traverse a section in the city (Dale End) where the wire had already gone. They coasted down that section, and into Carrs Lane where the wire was still in situ. The breakdown crane was in attendance in case they didn't make it, I think all except one did (that had to stop when someone ran across the road!). Photo below of crane 15 in dale End on that day.
There were no vandals in those days and the only damage was destination boxes or seats unscrewed for souvenirs. There is some film of the last movements from Bristol Rd (the centre reservation just past Pebble Mill Rd) to "The Lake" for breaking, about 10 days after the closure. Lots of dust and sparks from the track where traffic had driven over it on the section between Pebble Mill and Navigation Street.
