Quiney, James Albert

theodore

master brummie
James Albert Quiney b. 1887 (abt) Birmingham. Have not been able to find birth or death record for James. Have 1911 and 1921 census for him and marriage details (m. Jessie Alice Jackson June Q. 1914). A marriage record for his daughter (Edith Quiney) 24.9.1938 states father deceased. Why no birth or death records for him? No 1939 register for him but a number of ER years. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a death record in 1944 of a James A Quiney born abt 1882. Buried at Witton.
Do you know his parents names? Possibly Father's name from marriage record?

Hi Lyn & Janice
Did see 1944 death but think it most unlikely. 1911 census serving in the Army (James Quiney). 1921 census under (transcribed) surname name Luiney. Don't have any info on parents.

so is that him as a private on the 1911 transcribed queeney ? 4th worcs reg

Yes James, b. Birmingham aged 24 (serving with 4th Bn W R) is on that 1911 census. Man above him is named Queeney (Thomas).

Also have 1939 Register for wife Jessie and 2 of her daughters but under surname Wigley, living at 65 Moor End Lane, Erdington with a Leonard O. Wigley (both shown as married but I don't believe to each other).

How do you know that is "your" James Quiney?

Leonard O wigley married in 1924 an Edith Aminda Flanders. She died as Edith Aminda Wigley in 1981. So, either he didn't marry Jessie or it was bigamy

James Albert Quiney birth reg. Jun 1884 Bham. Parents James Quiney and Selina Hatfield.

In 1891 in Bham with parents and sisters, Violet, Edith and Lily.

Father James possibly in prison in 1901.

The James Alfred Quiney who married Florence Baylis has an RAF record and he was born Alcester though his birthplace is listed as Bham at times and he is probably the James mentioned by lyn in post #2.

With the goings on between Leonard and Jessie it would seem possible that the 1944 death for James is correct and if Leonard and Jessie were living as man and wife then maybe that Edith listed her father as deceased was a lie.

Strangely it appear that James Albert's possible mother lists herself as widow in 1911 though her husband is still alive and shacked up with another woman whom he marries after his wife's death.

Not all that relevant.

The only birth (1884) I have found is for James Alfred Quiney. I had seen the marriage for Leonard Osborne Wigley and Edith Flanders and that Edith died in 1981 and so assumed Leonard and Jessie were not married (legally anyway). Jessie Alice Quiney died June Q. 1971 aged 76.
