I hope Mike Jee see's this I'm looking for an aerial view of William Street Ladywood with a pic of the White Horse in any chance ?
Thank you very much JaniceThere is a thread here with a link in post #6 which refers to White Horse
Good morning everyone.
I am researching a family member on ancestry and have found a street name on an 1851 census from Birmingham. I have attached a photo (marked with a red circle). It states Thomas Cardall and his wife were living at William Street, I believe (from looking at the family above them) that it says 'Hackers' or 'Hackels' building but I cannot find any more information on this, the census states it was in the Birmingham St Thomas area of Birmingham.
If anyone could shed any light on this I would appreciate the assistance. Thanks for your time
Nicky

Thanks for your response Mike my thoughts entirely ,I have a Birmingham Pubs book and they nominated that building as the outside gents , being a scratchbuild modeller one of the tricks of the trade is if you don't know the height of a building count the brick courses . I counted 23 and the common building brick is 2.5/16" so it's no way the WC , I think it's something to do with the houses . Thank's againIt's too low to be an air raid shelter. Might be a coal bunker. I suppose it could be an outside urinal, but it does lcount the ook as if it has a roof, which would rule that out as not tall enough
Lyn, this photo's showing on Flickr as being the 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George Vhere is another one of the white horse...flags...bunting and balloons out and looks like 2 ladies holding bunting so maybe getting ready celebrate the queens coronationView attachment 204491
