Hello Paul, that is another one I never went in but I used drive past it almost every time we went shopping or into town. I also passed it almost every day when I was at work.

Is that the pub that used to have an old fashioned skittles alley at the back?
I remember going to one once (in the 70's) which was in that area but maybe it was called the White Swan now I come to think of it?
 
I used to work at the White Swan in the 70's. What wonderful times we had. I would come in, get 2 tumblers and go along the optics filling them up. I would leave them at the top of the bar, warning whoever was there, that if Roy the manager came round they had to swear black and blue they belonged to THEM!!! Then the staff (quite a few of them in those days) would have a little sip throughout the night getting merrier and merrier.
The place was always packed, 6 or 7 deep at the bar and the tips were magnificent. It has none of that atmosphere any more.
I was called Petal or Flower or Daisy as I always had a fresh flower in my hair. Does anyone remember these days?

I know the White Swan in Harborne is still standing but it would be lovely to see an old picture of it wouldn't it? Jojo
 
I had to have a blood test for something or other one day. My brother and I called into the Duke of York for a 'quick one'. When I finally got to hospital the blood test was useless. I had to go back for another one bypassing the Duke and the Swan. Jojo :stupid:

This is/was The Duke of York, on Lordswood Road, near to the junction with High Street. It was demolished a number of years ago and a large block of luxery apartments have occupied the site for a coupl of years now.
 
Beloe is an advertising page on the white Swan c 1950. It is from "Time Please" by Andrew Maxim

I went to bed too early for this one - the 'very old Red Lion' shows in #412 and a 'new Red Lion' colour pic shows in #413.
Sticher's latest photo in #531 does not count as a repeat because it is a different photo...:untroubled:

This old pub was featured in the Mail twice last week.
The Great Stone Inn, Church Road Northfield. 1936.
 
The Old Engine that stood at 49 Dale End that part of Dale end between Coleshill St and Masshouse Lane (see map). It must have been demolished early last century.

I noticed this old pub 'The Royal Exchange' in the Alma Street thread. A different 1956 view of it appears in post #397 of this thread where it looks a 'working' pub, but in this colour pic the large window seems boarded up, could closure be on the way? - unless the window had been accidently broken.

What a lovely thread, have been browsing this one since this morning when I have had 5 minutes, I was really hoping there would be a photo of The British Oak, My Nan lived in the back to back houses houses next to it, I can remember they had a monkey there when I was very young.
 
I assume you are talking about the British Oak on Pershore Rd Stirchley at not the one on Gooch St North Edgbaston.

I assume that the window of the "Royal Exchange" was possibly broken when some one passed through it!! unless Alama Street has changed since I went down there.
