Yes I realise that, and that is what I am saying. The colour photo is what was once the Beeches Great Barr. Whilst the two pubs are similar they are easily identified as different.

So...Although I've seen many 'Beeches Pubs' in the thread, I don't expect to see an early photo of the pub which I played around as a youngster !
I have put a pic here which maybe shows the pub being built marked by the red X

Old Mowhawk, I posted a picture of both pubs and you rightly pointed out that the names were wrong, I checked my pictures and the photo of the Great Barr one definately says that it is the Northfield one. You were/are correct about this weeks ago and I assumed it was sorted.

Hi Stitcher - I think Phil has put the explanation in his post #451 but don't I think there are any old photos of the Perry Beeches pub so I'll have to stay with my memories of it.
Funny thing is the only time I ever went in the pub was to have a pop bottle filled up with Ansell's Nut Brown ale for my dad !

Hello oldMohawkI used to have to go the local outdoor for the same thing.
Who remembers the costomongers pub just off corporation street in the market square
it had all the market holders wheel barrows dezigned tables when it first openend it later became a rockers and bikers pub a couple of years
later ; orinionaly it was a dress coded pub ; especialy for mods ; and people wearing tidy dress
it was a shame the way they let it go ; astonian ;;

I'm not sure if these have been posted before - I had a look and couldn't find them so apologies if they are duplicates. The booklet they are in is marked 1908 (handwritten, not part of the book) but I would have expected a car or two in that period and suspect they may be earlier. Any thoughts on that?

I have no Idea of the date this photo was taken but it shows tthe lea Tavern in Lea Hall.

Hi Stitcher Your picture originally appeared some time ago in a thread I started under the heading Lea Tavern, Lea Village when I posted a photo of a pub I thought might be Lea Tavern. I had found the photo with some other family pictures and had presumed it was Lea Tavern as my great aunt was licencee there in the 1930s. However from various snaps posted by forum members is appears my photo was not Lea Tavern although there are many similar features in the design of the building. Perhaps you (or anyone else) may have some idea where my pic was taken?

The pub in #466 appears to be a 'shortened' version of the same pub shown in #465. The #465 view appears to show the pub at a later date. There are three other pics of Lea Tavern in the thread.

The Vine, Green Lane Small Heath, 1917. It was built about 1630 and demolished in 1927.

Deritend High Street about 1880-90, and the building is The Golden Lion.
This is again the Golden Lion in its final resting place, Cannon Hill Park in the 70s. I admit it was four years ago when I last visited the park but the building did not look this well kept at that time.

I think you must be talking about the Bolton Arms that stood on the corner of Bolton Rd and Oakley Rd in Small Heath (not Balsall Heath).
The building is still standing today but I believe it is an Asian banqueting suite now (see photo). The only other photo I have is of the original pub and not probably the one that your friend remembers.

My Father as a young boy, lived in what was the Aston Brook Tavern in Powell St Aston. Several families had rooms in this pub. I have found some documents relating to this pub and its landlord on the internet but no photo other than this one years later when it looks like a factory of some sort. I have never heard it mentioned on any history site or seen a photo.

like many of our old gereration are also disapearing slowly one by one
that was always a very busy pub day and night and at week ends if you could get a chair or stool you was liucky
my old grand father would always drink in there he always had his half bitter and a gorgonola cheese sandwich with it what he used to by in there
and my old man ; [ my father ] done the reliefe for the gather for many years like he did all the pubs on and around the ason cross when not
running the golden cross ;for donkeys years from a youth to his 49 years ;its also sad to see how aston as becme a no mans land
just like brum is becoming ;
yesterday i went to see phil lynch ; my barber at the broad way ;but he had gone up sticks and moved to the back of the poolway shopping centre
but i did catch up with him at his new shop ; but getting back on track i came up edward rd balsall heat ; and i was shocked to see all
the pubs had gone from the street top to bottom the only one to survive and redecorated is the old clock pub
half way up its the only one survived ; the cannon had gone the coach and horse had gone and the new inns at the top was a bussinees centre
and going across to thebroad way i seen umpten pubs have gone gallaghrs office block as gone as well
is thjere many more pubs left phil to get a drink and socialise the queen vic on stratford rd is a police shop ; when or where is it gonna stop phil ;
and by the way phil ; do we really need a new lord mayor ; for the counties ; and borders ;
i do not think so there will be more problems i suspect if it goes ahead ; best wishes astonian

On the Lee Tavern thread you were saying that the 3 pubs the Maggies, the Baldwin & the Maypole that if their outlines were placed together the shape formed would be that of an ocean liner. I had heard this before but it was only the Balwin & the Maggies that were mentioned as they both Art Deco pubs designed by the same architect. The maypole being of a different shape and design altogether.
I had a little look around the web and found a placard that is or was on the wall outside the Maggies that explains it.
