Pub on the Firs Estate Bromford

zak14

master brummie
I used to go to a Pub on the Bromford with an old girlfiend which I know has been knocked down now. It was between the Chipperfield Road and the Clock Garage and I think it may have been called the Stagecoach. If not the Stagecoach then it had a name related to cowboys.

Can anyone remember if I have the name right and does anyone have a photograph?.

Thanks

It was indeed the Stagecoach as this was the only pub that was entirely on the Firs Estate. Very apt name as it was a bit like Dodge City around there at times.

One of liam occonors pubs
in the first to make is empire which he deserviny
was is first venture

A little bit further down to the S.E and you would have got me on there Froth. I only went into that pub once and that was enough.

I lived on the Bromford estate about 30 years ago, used the Stagecoach twice. I use to use the Guineas. Not the best pub in the world but it was a drink.

The Stagecoach Public House, Newport Rd, Castle Bromwich. Is this the one?

The Ansells Arms was a decent pub in the early eighties when an old Irish couple used to run it. They went back to Ireland to live and it was never the same again after that. I used to live on the Bromford, we've had this conversation before.

Where do you find these photos, amazing.
This part of the Firs estate is now totaly demolished and the land is so wet it won't be built on again. I remember going into a flat adjacent to the pub and the walls were dripping with water and the place was a total nightmare.

Funny old life I lived in Chipperfield Road Froth from 1958 till 1960 and don't remember that Pub:(

where exactly was the buccaneer pub...i just had a blast from the past...sure it was that one i went to a couple of times when i knew someone who lived on the castle vale i think...

lyn:)

Thanks Froth I couldn't have missed a Pub that close in those days:)

You could see it in the dip on the right as you drove towards the clock garage from the collector road. Certainly in the late 60s early 70s anyway.

There was another Buccaneer at b'ham airport by the way.

Well thank you all very much, once again you came through and even pictures as well !.

Yes it was the Stagecoach as you have all confirmed. My girlfriend lived in Palmers Grove off Chipperfield Road and very occasionaly we went there if I did not want to drive. It was between 1980 and 1983.

It brings back memories as we had some good times there, it always seemed an OK Pub to me but then again I am from Kingstanding so perhaps I was used to the rougher than average Pub ?

Anyway thanks again for your help.

There was no Buccaneer on the vale, I'm pretty sure of that:rolleyes:

froth..i am sure it was a pub on the castle vale estate i went to...it would have been 1971 its just that the buccaneer rang a bell...

alf..the sky lark rings a bell with me..but i still think may have been another pub on the vale....

I know there was another Pub on the Vale near a home for the aged, I use to visit a friend there and take him to the Pub in his wheelchair on the odd Sunday evening with my Brother in Law when I was visiting Moms.

thanks alf..it may well be the one i am thinking about then...just cant recall the name...

lyn:)

There was a sort of fad at one time to name the lounge, like the Broadway had the smugglers cove, The yew tree had the rio grande, the avenues had hells kitchen etc.

Maybe the Stagecoach had the Buccaneer, I can remember seeing the sign from the road, and the locations about right.
