Pop up Adverts 2025

Yes - lots and lots of them - top, bottom and at the side. Also - if you go to the "privacy and cookie settings" tab and turn them off, it totally ignores what you have entered and just carries on regardless.

I've been out most of the day, it's still as bad, the adverts are at the top of the screen which makes it hard to use the search button etc. I have to click very quickly before the pop up appears!
I've tried logging out and logging back in but it hasn't helped

@warren
Can you help me please, the pop ups on my Samsung phone are getting very bad, it's making it difficult for me to read things on the Forum!
With my limited technical knowledge I've tried going through the settings but I can't solve it - I'm wondering if it's something to go with my phone or Internet connection (I don't have WiFi)?

This morning..

Me again : unamused:
What I've now found is that the settings show that I consent to certain adverts, I keep turning them to 'off' and saving my choices but they are not being saved, as soon as I look again they are back on - no idea what to do about that!

I've just tried installing Firefox, unfortunately the adverts are still popping up in exactly the same way :confounded:
I guess I'm just going to have to put up with ads covering half the page at the moment!

Thanks for pointing this out, Mark. With your comment, on top of other helpful reports in this thread, there does seem to be some sort of pattern of change happening at the moment with regard to adverts.

I myself have noticed some differences, including the insertion of adverts within a thread rather than on its periphery in the odd post of mine from previous years. (Not highly obtrusive but I always thought that this was a no-no). Haven't bothered to mention it because I do find some of the peripheral stuff far more obtrusive, especially when they start to blur the difference between what is clearly an advert and what might just be a BHF notification requiring a click to respond.

It would be useful if Warren could have a careful look as to where we stand on all this, as and when his personal circumstances allow.

Chris

That would be good, thanks Chris.
I know it's been a difficult time for Warren, so when he's ready.
The advertising has got very bad this past week or so, I've never known anything like it on all my time as a Forum member!

I'm still getting the ads too.
I've gone into the privacy settings at the bottom of the main page and turned off the extra things but it's not saving my choice still.

Firefox 139.0.1 (Ubuntu) - ads
Firefox 139.0 (Android) - no ads
I have compared settings but they are quite different implementations of the browser, making it difficult. What I can say is that another site I visit often (Wordpress based) has introduced ads to raise revenue and the same happens - Ubuntu = ads, Android = no ads.

On my Ubuntu machine I can view the 'Page Source' as HTML and there are quite a few occurrences of 'google' in the served code, for example:

<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8116159123411762" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>

They appear to originate from the BHF server. Can't explain why they are blocked on the Android version though.

on firefox this stops lots of rubbish popping up
i use them and get NO uwanted adds or popups

Presumably the ads on this site come from a particular scheme/provider etc. From the look of some of those I'm getting here I'd question the ethics of that scheme. Who are they?
