Ponds Tools

Great shop! Always had exactly what you wanted! Made many trips there in the 1970,s. Was very well known within the construction & engineering industries!
 
if i remember right the shop op the fire station had a passage close by that come out by the Gaiety Picture House

My uncle, George Edwards, was the manager of Pond's in Corporation Street in the 1960's and early 70's. I used to go and see him with my Dad when we wanted some gardening tools. We always got a good deal! Does anyone know when the firm closed.
 
Walter Pond were a tool business in Steelhouse Lane till around 1960, when they moved to Corporation St. However, their original shop was at 117 taken over from ironmonger A.N.Phillips in 1903 or 1904. They added 128 in the late 1920s. However, between 1940 and 1943 they lost the 117 store. It was presumably bombed as the 1950s map shows a blank area. As only 117 is mentioned, and judging by the attire, it possibly was a promotional photo taken soon after they took over the shop
