Peter Michael Glynn-Metal worker.

Brummie Peter

proper brummie kid
Hello Folks!
Does anybody have any info regarding my family name Glynn who resided in Cromwell St
in the 1920s? My Dad was the youngest of 6 boys who grew up in a Back to Back there
Thanks!

Are you looking for relatives or help with research?

Peter Glynn & Annie Sharpe? If so, possibly another brother & a sister, who sadly died young.

Hi...Annie Sharpe was married to Peter Glynn and they were my Grandfather and Grandmother!
Do you have any more info please?

Apart from the six brothers, there was a Frederick Peter b & d 1913 and an Annie Elizabeth b & d 1919.

On the 1939 register Leonard and Peter are listed with their grandmother (?) Annie Sharpe at 100 Henry St. Other siblings may be there but their records closed.

You may know all this already but...

Peter Glynn b1893, seems to be the son of a John Glynn and an Elizabeth Hastings/Eastens/Eastings. They were also living on Cromwell St in 1901.

Both John and Elizabeth appear to be of Irish descent.

There is a matching death registration of the correct age. It also appears that Annie (wife) died a couple of years earlier which is probably why some of the children are with their gran in 1939.

Hello!
This seems to be about right...John and Edward were my Dads older brothers.
The date of Peter Michael Glynns death is exactly what i have in my records!
Thanks for your info...I am currently trying to locate as many 'images' of
Cromwell St (1920s-1930s) as possible as i have only so far found 1 from 1935
when King George's Jubilee was being celebrated so would appreciate anyone
who can help me here also!

Yes - I thought I had posted that but obviously didn't.

Hi...John Glynn would have been my Gt Grandfather who i believe was from the west
of Ireland but as yet have no info about him.And likewise for Elizabeth.

It is actually quite hard to get info for Irish ancestors - many Irish records don't exist. Those that do are often vague church records - making it hard to know if you have the right person.

John Glynn was born in Oldbury, his father William was born in Ireland.

Likewise Elizabeth was born in Aston and her father was probably born in Ireland. An uncle (listed as Peter Eastens born Dublin) is with her in 1911. His father was also a Peter. Not certain who Elizabeth's father was.

Ah...So it appears that it was my Great Great Grandfather who was Irish ( possibly West Meath)?
Thanks again...

This is where it gets tricky, Do we have John's marriage details to get his Father's name?
As I had different parents both born in Ireland.

Registration only.

Do you have his parents as John & Mary?

I think it may be William & Ann (also both born Ireland) of Oldbury because John's birth is listed as Oldbury in 1881 & 1891.

A certificate to make certain maybe.

Yes but I hadn't checked it through. So I wasn't sure. As I said this is where it gets tricky.
Marriage cert would help confirm.

I have done some checking and you may well be right but think the only way for sure is to get a marriage cert to confirm beyond doubt.

There's some photos here if you haven't seen them. Not sure of the dates.

Here is a map (1950)...

For photos you'd have to be fortunate.

My great aunt lived at 38 Cromwell St and this is supposed to be a photo of her and some of her children...

And a couple of very good retouches.
