Perry Barr underpass

This has been referred to in other posts but I rediscovered this photo in my phone. It's the underpass under construction 1960 - 1962 taken from the roof of the high rise flats I think.
It's of special interest to me as I used to pass through this junction, Wellington Rd - Aston Lane twice a day 1960 to 1967. The Aston Lane junction is near the top corner. I had a three wheeled bubble car in 1962 and if you look closely at the Wellington Road junction side, IMG_20250821_102148.jpg the one you can see could well be me!
I remember the diversions well during the massive road works.
The underpass was built with electric heating elements built into the road surface to de-ice in the winter, extremely unusual, if not a first. I don't think it was used for very long when it was done away with. Too expensive to run I guess.
