Can anyone throw any light on John Leonard Paul. Born1909 . Around 1914 he joined the calalry aged approx 16yrs. He was on the stage and appeared mostely in pubs with concert rooms he apparently appeared with Jack Buchanan. He lived in Hall Green. I believe he finally went to Jersey and bought a hotel. I would love to know if anyone knows anything further? Thanks.

I believe that you are talking about my father. I am his youngest daughter. Would like to hear from you and the reasons why you are interested. Are you a familty member?

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hello thank you for your reply. I am doing my family tree. Fanny Florence Paul was my husbands grandmother who married Ernest Bambury. Fanny died in 1926. Her daugher Muriel was bought up by Maud Mackie and Elizabeth Snow (both Pauls obviously).
I believe that John had two daughters - Margaret and Vera? If you don't mind contacting me again with any further information l would be very interested. Many Thanks.

My dad had 4 daughters Irene, Barbara, Vera and Margaret and 2 sons John and Tony by his second wife.
I actually lived with Aunty Maud and knew Muriel very well as when she married she only lived a few streets away. She had two sons David and Robert but unfortunately I have lost touch. The Pauls were a big family and unfortunately I know little about them. I did know Aunty Bet as we called her she used to live in Knowle and dads brother Horace and his wife Daisy. Horace and my dad were in business together for a time. I had heard of your husbands grandmother but dad was the youngest of a large family and I was the youngest of mine so obviously a lot of them had died before I could get to know them.

If I can help further please let me know. From what you have said your husbands father and Muriel must have been brother and sister. I don,t think Muriel had much contact with her immdkate family, but I could be wrong.

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hello, you must be Margaret! I am Davids Wife - he remembers you ! Fanny Florence Paul was his Grandmother and we have been trying to establish whereabouts she was buried. During my research on the Pauls l have made contact with a lady whose mother is Daisy - Horace's wife. (Daisy is still alive ) If you have any objections into me passing onto her any information that l have obtained or even the fact that l have made contact with you would you let me know please. So did your Dad die in Morecambe as l led to believe he did? We have done alot of research into the family and actually found Herbert Snow (Aunty Bet's) husbands' grave in France. Muriel died in November 2003. Muriel didn't have any contact at all really with her immediate family it was all Maud etc, but it has been very interesting trying to trace everyone. I appreciate that it is a large family but l appear to be piecing alot of things together. Anything that you can tell me would be very much appreciated. Best Wishes to you. Vonni

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hello Vonnie

Is your David Muriels son? It was interesting to learn what you had found out. How do you go about this? I have a second cousin who is desparate to trace her family tree, and wonders if you have come across her grandfather William John Paul.

I think you are wrong about Aunt Daisy, she died before Uncle Horace. Perhaps the lady you are talking about was named after her mother. I do remember one of Uncle Horaces daughters Dorothy. We actually rented a cottage in Wales for a holiday from her. Dad actually died in Warrington where he was living with one of my sisters. Incidentally my family are all dead now apart as far as I know Vera. Also I don't think Dads birth year could have been 1909 as he would only have been five when he joined up.!

Actually reading what you have found out is jogging my memory more (terrible these days) and hopefully I can help you further.

A lot of people used to visit Aunty Maud and I am sure one of them was Muriels sister who was named Blanche.

Cheers for now

Margaret

Re: John Leonard Paul

I hope you don't mind me joining in? I'm also researching the Paul family (my mother is one of Horace and Daisy's daughters).
I've traced your father John Leonard Paul as born 1898 in Birmingham and died after 1949 in Morecombe, Lancs (would that be the registration district for Warrington?). I'd got the four daughters but could only trace birthdates for Irene and Barbara J Paul. I assumed about 1935 and 1936 for you and Vera Paul. I also had John Paul as a son of John Leonard and Irene Bennett born about 1931. Is that wrong? Is he a son of Doris Bragg? I also traced Anthony W Paul (son of John Leonard and Doris) born about 1946.
If you look at Ancestry you can see my tree (as far as it goes!)
I'd be really glad to exchange information if you'd like to.

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hello Cheryl

No of course not - the more the merrier. You know more about my fathers dates than I do. Vonnie also had information that I was not aware of. I know that my second cousing is very interested in finding out more of the family tree. She very much wants to trace her grandfather William John Paul who died in the first Word War. He died 23rd October 1917. I am doing this for her as she is having trouble getting into the site. You could be right about where dads death was registered. You would be about right for Vera's date of birth. Mine was 1940. John was born to my mother Irene Bennett, and Tony by his second wife Doris. I remember uncle Horace and aunt Daisy quite well, and as I told Vonnie I also knew one of his daugters named Dorothy. I did meet other members of the family on a visit but cannot remember any names. How would it be possible for me to see your family tree. What information would I need to get into it?

Keep in touch

Cheers Margaret

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hi Diane, I've got a Muriel Paul born 1915 as your dad's sister. Have I got that wrong? Did your dad have a brother called John Leonard?
It gets so confusing as there are so many Pauls with the same Christian names!

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hi Cheryl
We've been communicating through Ancestry! I'm sure you'll find this forum interesting. I can't believe when l posted the thread that l would get this response. It's amazing. I just have difficulty now in piecing everyone together.
I did ask Margaret if she minded me passing information onto you, but you beat me to it.
Cheers for now

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hi Diane,
My grandfather Horace Paul was one of nine children; Fanny Francis, William John, Sarah Elizabeth, Ada, Maud Edith, May, Elizabeth (who died as a child), Horace and John Leonard.
Their parents were William Henry Paul (1856 - 1930) and Mary Frances Luckman (1858 - 1940). They came from Coventry.
I would love to see any photos you have, especially any of your grandparents and parents as I haven't seen any photos of them.

Re: John Leonard Paul

Dear Wendy,
Many, many thanks for that information which has allowed me to correct the approximate dates I had for several of the family. I took a look at some of your photos of Key Hill cemetery - it was certainly an impressive place a few years ago!
Cheryl

Re: John Leonard Paul

Hello Wendy,
When l orginally posted the enquiry for the Paul family l never in my wildest dreams thought that the response would be so fantastic. I've just seen your thread re Key Hill Cemetery, thanks, l shall now update my records.

Re: John Leonard Paul

As Cheryl has said Diane, I am a volunteer at Key Hill Cemetery and help on this forum to locate family with their loved ones buried at Key Hill and Warstone Lane Cemeteries. I have no connection to your family.
