I can understand what you've said.
Absolutely no disrespect to Ozzy (not his fault!) but I do agree that they seem to be 'milking it' for effect.
 
I too share your views; I liked the guy but there is a lot more to Birmingham thank just one individual. The J.R.R. Tolkien legacy has been flogged to death several times. I feel it idol thinking by the promotors. I agree. Brum has a lot more to offer whether it be social, creative, industrial history etc (after all this site exists because of that wealth of interesting history).

My view on the 'Ozzie effect' is he was one of many aspects of Birmingham's music and creative arts history. He was a big character, was proud of Brum, and is bound to grab the attention of followers. If that attention has brought a focus to Birmingham - and in particular its music history and musicians - I'm in favour. It would be great if this interest went one step further and put Birmingham's musical achievements more clearly on the map.
 
Just watched Midlands Today reporting on Ozzie Day in Brum. Just brilliant. Come on guys, stop knocking what he achieved both for heavy metal and for Birmingham. He is now - not just some historical figure - long may his fame continue..................
