I have searched for this Church on here and can find nowt.
I went to the Junior and Infant School and can remember having our Mass etc, in the School Hall. There was a big archway with red curtains across when we used it as the school hall and when there was a service the curtains were opened and the Sacristy revealed.
The Parish Priest, Reverend Murphy, decided to build a Church and called all the Parishioners together for a dinner at Solihull Civic Hall. The meal was free and all were invited, each of us had an invitation, my parents and me along with my fiancee as we were due to get married the next year, so I would think this was about 1964/5.
Anyhow off we went for the free meal - nothing in life is free, not even when it is offered by a priest!!!
The Civic Hall was full and after our Starter, Father Murphy stood up and announced he had brought us all together under false pretences. Our meal was free but there was a condition ................. we all had to sign to say we would pay 2s 6d (12.5 new pence) per week on top of our offerings towards the building of a new Church. Once we had signed up we would be served the rest of our meal, if we didn't want to sign up then we could leave now and there would be no hard feelings!
Needless to say we signed, as did the majority of families present. Not only was the new Church of Our Lady of Lourdes paid for this way but enough money was raised to build the new Church of St Ambrose Barlow in Hall Green.
I wondered if anyone had any other memories of the Church or photos or could confirm this recollection.
