organic food or none organic

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
hi guys
can you taste the differents between the two .?
or is it exploytation .
i cannot taste the difference
only in my pocket
meaning its a expensive ploy to get our money out
us by the super markets
best wishes astonian ''

hi astonian,im always a bit wary of "organic" food as there has been some reports of producers caught out using non organic products for pest controll etc.with all the talk of carbon footprints just look at country of origin on organic products in the supermarkets and you will see a lot of them come from a long way away.so organic doesnt mean "fresh".at home we have started to grow our own veg in containers using no artificial help at all.the taste is great,we know its history and for the price of the seeds and compost ect it works out value for money.patx

I would have thought that you ought more to be ''wary'' of food that DOESN'T claim to be organic!

The best bet is to grow-your-own, and then you can be sure of what goes into it; and it invariably tastes so much better too.

However, I must admit that I am wary of foreign food that claims to be organic...how can we know? At least the British Soil Association has some control over our home-grown variety.

I'm very wary of organic foods as I know quite a few farmers and they have told me some horror stories! From my own experience I know that if you don't use pesticide you won't get a crop that's worth 5p and quite often no crop at all because the grubs have eaten it all! I never give a penny out on "organic" and I have to smile with those that do.

Smile away, but you are largely wrong in your assumptions. There may be the odd 'rogue' masquerading as an 'organic' farmer, but in the majority of cases they are real enthusiasts who would not dream of using pesticides and the like. As for 'non-organic' farmers, they'll tell you anything, as they'll sell you anything, covered in chemicals!

John, wrong or not if I'm going to be poisoned I prefer not to be over-charged for the privilege.

There are people that live to be a hundred without ever eating fruit or veg. In my younger days I never was a lover of fruit. Here we have a lot of fruit trees growing in the wild thus never been touched by spraying but by the time they are ripe most of the fruit has been eaten by the grubs or gone bad through disease. I know for a fact that some 'organic' farmers spray their crops at night time so that (they think) no one sees them doing it.
