Stuart welcome , was it a badge or a button as it was also called, any docker carrying a button would be assure of work when ever casual labour was required on the docx in those daysAppreciate your response, my Dad was born 1945, always said he was a war baby.
I have his death certificate. I met his brothers and sister when I was small. They still lived in Dublin, Oliver Bond flats. That would have been mid 70s.
He always said his Dad worked the docks and had a badge??
Not great maths but perhaps Dad's dad might have been born around 1920?
Thanks to all. My Dad's name was Terence.Stuart welcome , was it a badge or a button as it was also called, any docker carrying a button would be assure of work when ever casual labour was required on the docx in those days
Thank you MWS. that gap and my grandparents lives is what interests me.So it seems you have to bridge the gap between your dad's birth and his dad's.
Do you have access to your dad's marriage certificate or birth certificate which would be better.
Though even that might not be enough as O'Neill is such a common name.
Hi Lyn. My dad's name was Terence, brother's were Tony, Reggie, Buddy and Tommy. Sister was May. May lived by The Greet in Tyseley.as said given the lack of irish records this could be difficult but just in case anything may turn up i dont think you have given us the first names of your dad and his brothers ?

Im looking for a place to start and help with my family on my Dad's side. My Dad came to Birmingham in 1964 from Dublin.
I know all his brothers names. I never met my grandparents. I have scant details. Is there a start point?
Any advice would be appreciated...
Hi Stuart,
I have found a family tree on Ancestry for him. It shows his parents names but both showing born Birmingham. Feel free to contact me and I will give you what I can see. Sorry his dad was born in Ireland but his mom was born in Birmingham.
1911 is the birth year of your grandad.Really appreciate your advice, I have been trying to form a plan today. The advice to reach out to family members is good. I have some relations on my mom's side who I can try to contact.
They might be able to give some start points.
In my mind I have a year of birth as 1909.
No, the dates are wrong. Dad died January 2013. Grateful for your thoughts though.A few things don't seem to match so I may have steered you on to the wrong path.
Is the obituary posted definitely your dad's?
I think the trees found by Fearny relate to the Terence born in 1942 not the one we want.Sorry about that then, I thought it might be after the info Faerny gave.
Your mother was Philomena Sheehan? There do appear to be a number of trees with them on Ancestry but none appear to list your dad's parents.
Overwhelmed with the help, thank you peopleI think the trees found by Fearny relate to the Terence born in 1942 not the one we want.
