Old tv programmes

Fanny Craddock was a nightmare in real life, too. She once beat up a policeman who tried to arrest her when she backed her Rolls Royce into another car.

I wouldn't have taken her on, either...

The wheel tappers and shunters club. My dad loved it ding ding ding. Jimmy Edwards played the headmaster at a school but I can't for the life of me remember. Was it Gordonstone and Billy Bunter Grey Friars?. Poor Fanny god rest her soul. Jean.

Hi Jean,

Wheeltappers & Shunters Club was with Colin Crompton as MC - "On be-'alf of t' committeeeeee!"

Jimmy Edwards was headmaster of Chiselbury School on Whack-O, with Arthur Howard as his deputy.

All great stuff!

How's about Casy Jones going down the railroad?. Johny Morris Animal Majic Crackerjack and Tuesday Rendevous. Jean.

"Casey Jones, steamin' and a-rollin'
Casey Jones, you never have to guess.
When you hear the tootin' of the whistle,
It's Casey at the throttle of the Cannonball Express"

With Alan Hale Jr as Casey. Loved it!

Johnny Morris I couldn't stand!

"Crackerjack" with Eamonn Andrews was another must-see.

Now then - here's one for the real old TV programme pundits: Billy Bean And His Funny Machine.

Who knows the Billy Bean song, then?

Big Gee

PS: Jean, I have to ask, and forgive me for doing so: were you born this side or the other side of The Coronation?

Ooooh, Dek - you rotter!

Jean, I'm a 46 babe too. Great time to be born, because it meant that you got the full impact of the Sixties, which I did....only too well, as it goes...

Hi Froth,

That's not the same show as "Casey Jones"! The Casey I recall was a train driver!

But I do remember your Cannonball!

Big Gee.

PS: is this the best thread on this site for yonks, or what??

What about the prisoner i went to visit where it wasf filmed in portmerion wales

I went to college not far from Portmeirion, and one day myself and a couple of friends 'borrowed' a rowing-boat and rowed across the estuary to Portmeirion, hoping to get in without having to pay. Unfortunately we were spotted leaving the beach and had to make a run/row for it....however, the tide had turned and we got stuck on a mud bank!

What about the Police series; Z Cars and the ones starring Raymond Francis and Eric Lander, one was called Murder Bag which got its title from the primitive (now) forensic kit that the police used to solve the crimes.
In thise days, everything went out live and the sets were really basic by today's standards. I remember the actors occassionally reverting to the own names as opposed to characters names.
